The Salt-Stained Throne

I was born to be a meal. For years, the vampiric Vodyan Lords of Krovnya kept me as a living chalice, my blood their finest vintage. My escape cost everything, leaving me with a dying wish to fulfill: reach Orli Hrad, the Eagle's Castle, a legendary sanctuary for the hunted. But the castle's guardian is a monster of a different sort - Borin, a shifter whose wolf form is a terrifying, twisted thing of nightmare. He’s a gentle soul trapped in a brutal shell, and I, a shy girl with a spine of steel, am his fated mate. For the first time, I feel safe. I even dare to feel hope, especially when a simple meal I cook brings a flicker of a forgotten past to Borin’s eyes. But our wise host, Matrona Stanimira, watches us with an unnerving intensity. This fortress is more than a refuge; it’s a crucible. And the bond growing between Borin and me might not be the key to our freedom, but the lock on a far more terrible prison. Is this sanctuary a new beginning, or just the final trap?
