Chapter 8 of 10
Weaponized Toxicity

The wind tore past them, a howling gale that promised to flatten them against the distant, razor-sharp rock formations. Vozhan, however, remained impassive, his gaze fixed on the rapidly approaching platform below, a tessellated expanse of glowing cyan lines that comprised the Spire’s ‘Code Lattice’. His fingers twitched, calculating trajectory and momentum. His face betrayed no fear, only the faint, focused intensity of a player perfecting a difficult jump.
From above, a flash of movement. Tazliq, astride the stolen ‘Skyshear Blade’, spiraled downward, his usually placid expression now contorted with a frantic, heroic urgency. “Vozhan! Hold on! I’ve got you, brother!” he bellowed, his voice straining against the wind. The hover-sword dipped, Tazliq extending a hand, staring down with frantic resolve. He was attempting the classic 'Heroic Catch' maneuver, a staple of every dramatic rescue sequence.

Vozhan’s eyes flickered, ignoring Tazliq’s outstretched hand. He instead focused on Tazliq’s head, specifically the hard-looking, impractical bronze helmet Tazliq insisted on wearing. As Tazliq swooped in, Vozhan subtly shifted his weight, pulling Grizmak closer to his chest. The moment Tazliq’s hand brushed his shoulder, Vozhan coiled, pushing off the original protagonist’s helmet with both feet, a perfectly timed ‘animation cancel’ that transferred his downward momentum into a precise horizontal trajectory.
“Wha—oof!” Tazliq grunted as Vozhan bounced off his head, a human-homunculus projectile. Tazliq spun wildly on the Skyshear Blade, nearly losing his grip. He stared, bewildered, as Vozhan, now moving horizontally at an incredible speed, extended a hand, snagging a protruding node on the Code Lattice platform. He landed with a soft thump, Grizmak unfolding from his grip like a deflated accordion, whimpering.
“Did you just… head-bounce me?” Tazliq muttered, stabilizing his hover-sword. “That was… unorthodox. But effective!” He landed beside Vozhan, still radiating confused admiration.
The Code Lattice hummed beneath their feet, a vast, glowing circuitry diagram leading further into the Spire’s internal mechanisms. But their brief respite was shattered. The Anti-Cheat Warden, its towering, faceted form now fully descended from the ceiling breach, slammed down onto the platform with a metallic screech that vibrated through the floor. Its multi-lensed eyes, previously glowing with a dull red, flared an angry, pulsing orange.
[Warning: Target 'Vozhan' detected. Threat Level: Catastrophic. Initiating Purge Protocol: 'Static Overload'.]
The construct raised a colossal, segmented arm. A beam of pure, shimmering data coalesced at its palm, crackling with an unnatural energy. It was not a destructive blast, but something far more insidious – a concentrated burst of forced Static Karma, designed to push Vozhan’s meter past its breaking point and trigger a system-wide purge.
“He’s trying to ban you!” Grizmak squealed, his tiny hands covering his eyes.
Vozhan calmly noted the rising numbers on his internal UI. The Warden’s beam was alarmingly potent. He needed a distraction, and fast.
Before Vozhan could react, a blur of crimson and black shot past him. Chunzal, her usually elegant movements replaced by a feral, desperate lunge, threw herself directly into the path of the Warden’s ban-ray. She extended her arms, a manic grin splitting her face. “My darling! You think a mere ban can separate us? My love is a virus, an unpatchable exploit!”
The beam struck Chunzal full-on. Instead of vaporizing her or overloading *her* karma, the energy seemed to warp, to distort around her. The machine's orange lenses flickered erratically. Its form convulsed, a low, grinding sound emanating from its core.

Chunzal stood there, completely unharmed, her eyes burning with an unhinged triumph. “See, my beloved? My soul is too… *complicated* for their simple code!”
“Grizmak,” Vozhan said, his voice flat, ignoring Chunzal’s declaration. “Everything. Now.”
Grizmak, still peeking through his fingers, blinked. “Everything? But… my inventory management!”
“The Anti-Cheat construct is stalled,” Vozhan explained, pointing with his chin. “Its collision physics are still active. It just had a system crash. We are exploiting its temporary vulnerability with raw, unoptimized data.”
Grizmak stared in horror. A moment later, he unzipped his tunic, a frantic, high-pitched wail escaping him. “No! Not my… my artisanal cheese wheel! My antique door knocker! My collection of rare, slightly-used teacups!”
With a heave, Grizmak turned himself upside down, his small form becoming a living cascade of random objects. Hundreds of pounds of miscellaneous garbage – dented buckets, broken pottery, half-eaten loaves of 'Summoned Bread', a surprisingly ornate birdcage, a collection of forgotten cultivation manuals, a petrified sock puppet, and an entire, fully intact, but incredibly rusty, cannonball – erupted from his tunic, forming a chaotic, high-density avalanche. The sheer volume and erratic shapes of the items created a physics nightmare.

The colossal automaton, still reeling from Chunzal’s unexpected interference, was suddenly buried under a mountain of junk. Its metallic body groaned, its segmented joints grinding against the unnatural weight. Sparks flew as the absurd, collision-heavy items lodged themselves into its intricate mechanisms. A high-pitched squeal replaced its earlier growl. It thrashed, trying to dislodge the refuse, but each movement only served to embed the items deeper, causing more internal damage.
[Weaver’s Loom]: “You cannot patch a dying world, Creator.”
Vozhan smirked, a rare, almost imperceptible upturn of his lips. “I’m not patching it; I’m sequence breaking.”
