The Shrike of Ostrów Sings For Me

They call me Dr. Emil Orłowski, the city of Wislany's most charming and insufferable Resonance Therapist. My job is to soothe the 'Dissonants' - those whose emotions manifest as destructive, chaotic energy. My new assignment, however, is a death sentence with a pretty face: Zofia Niemczyk, the infamous 'Shrike of Ostrów.' Her devastating Resonance outbursts have leveled city blocks, and the Conclave has given me thirty days to declare her incurable for a 'merciful' public pacification. Everyone sees a cold-blooded monster, but I see a woman whose chaotic power lashes out with pinpoint precision, always sparing the innocent. They say she funds her lavish, reclusive lifestyle with blood money; I find records of every last złoty funneled into a hidden orphanage for children shattered by Resonance disasters. The world wants her dead, but the closer I get to the ice around her heart, the more I want to be the one man to see it melt. Can I unravel the conspiracy that branded her a villain before my own superiors decide I'm just as dangerously dissonant as she is?
