Chapter 15: The Truth Buried Inside Room 13
1.1k words
The moment the group stepped inside Room 13 again, everyone felt the same strange feeling they had experienced the first time they discovered it, but now it was much stronger. The room no longer felt like a forgotten part of Blackthorn Hotel. It felt like the heart of the entire building, the place where every secret, every disappearance, and every unanswered question had been waiting for them. The walls seemed darker than before, the air felt heavier, and the silence inside the room felt almost unnatural, as if the hotel itself had stopped making noise because it wanted them to read the message carefully.
Nobody wanted to move closer to the writing on the wall.
They had learned that every discovery inside this hotel came with a price.
But they also knew that if they wanted to survive, they needed the truth.
Mia slowly approached the wall while Alex stayed beside her, ready to pull her away if anything changed. The message was written in Elena’s handwriting, but unlike the frightened notes they had found before, this one looked calm. Almost like Elena knew someone would eventually find it.
Almost like she had been waiting for them.
The first sentence was the one that frightened them the most.
“THE FIRST PERSON WHO ENTERED THIS ROOM WAS NEVER A VICTIM.”
Everyone stared at the words, confused.
Lily immediately opened Elena’s diary again, searching through the pages. She flipped through every entry, comparing the handwriting and trying to understand what Elena meant. For hours they had believed Elena was simply another person who had been trapped by the hotel, another victim who disappeared because she discovered something she should not have found.
But what if that was not the truth?
What if Elena was connected to the beginning of everything?
As Lily searched through the diary, she discovered a hidden section that they had never noticed before. The pages had been stuck together, and only after carefully separating them did they reveal another part of Elena’s story.
The truth was much older than they expected.
Before Blackthorn Hotel became abandoned, before the rumours, before the disappearances, Elena had been one of the hotel’s researchers. She was fascinated by the strange events reported by guests. At first, she believed the stories were exaggerated, just like everyone else. She thought people were frightened by an old building and created ghost stories to explain things they did not understand.
But then she experienced the voices herself.
She discovered that the hotel was not haunted by the spirit of one person.
It was something else.
Something that could remember people.
Something that could copy them.
Something that could use their own emotions against them.
Elena spent years studying it, trying to understand why it appeared inside Room 13. Eventually, she discovered the truth.
Room 13 was not created for the thing inside.
It was created to contain it.
The group read through the hidden pages silently, each person becoming more afraid with every sentence. Elena explained that many years earlier, someone had discovered the presence inside the hotel and attempted to communicate with it. They believed it was intelligent and could answer questions. They thought they could control it.
But they were wrong.
The moment they tried to communicate with it, they gave it something it needed.
A connection.
A way to understand humans.
After that, the voices began.
The disappearances began.
The hotel became a place where curiosity became a trap.
Elena realized that the creature inside Room 13 did not want to escape immediately. It wanted something more dangerous.
It wanted to learn.
It wanted to become better at pretending.
Every person who entered the hotel taught it something new.
Every voice it copied.
Every memory it stole.
Every fear it discovered.
Alex looked around the room.
“So the people who disappeared…”
His voice became quiet.
“They made it stronger?”
Nobody answered.
Because they already knew.
Daniel.
Ryan.
Noah.
All of them had become part of the hotel’s memory.
The thought made everyone uncomfortable.
But then Mia noticed something else written beneath Elena’s message.
A final warning.
“IT DOES NOT NEED A BODY TO ESCAPE.”
Lily’s face changed.
“What does that mean?”
Before anyone could answer, the lights inside Room 13 went out.
The darkness surrounded them completely.
For several seconds, nobody moved.
Then they heard something.
A voice.
Not from outside the room.
Not from the hallway.
From inside.
Among them.
“Why are you afraid?”
Everyone froze.
Because the voice sounded like all of them at once.
The room slowly began changing. The furniture shifted, the walls seemed to move, and memories started appearing around them like images from a dream. Alex saw the moment they first arrived at Blackthorn Hotel, laughing and joking, completely unaware of what they were walking into. Mia saw the group standing together before everything went wrong. Lily saw herself reading the old stories about Room 13, believing she was only solving a mystery.
The hotel was showing them their own memories.
It was trying to remind them why they came.
It wanted them to remember their curiosity.
Because curiosity was how it reached people.
But this time, they refused to follow.
They had finally understood.
The hotel did not control people.
It convinced them.
Mia opened Elena’s diary one last time and found a sentence written at the very bottom of the final page.
A sentence they had somehow missed.
“The only way to leave Room 13 is to stop searching for what is inside.”
Everyone looked at each other.
The answer had been there the entire time.
They were trapped because they were still trying to uncover the mystery.
They wanted answers.
They wanted proof.
They wanted to understand.
And the hotel used that desire against them.
For the first time since entering Blackthorn Hotel, they stopped searching.
They stopped asking questions.
They simply wanted to leave.
The door of Room 13 slowly opened.
Not because the hotel allowed them.
Because they had finally stopped giving it power.
The remaining friends stepped toward the exit, but before leaving, Mia looked back one last time.
Inside the room, standing in the darkness, was a figure.
Elena.
Or something that looked like Elena.
The figure smiled sadly.
And whispered one final message.
“Don’t let it learn anyone else.”
Then the door closed.
