The Murmur of the Marrow

Dr. Ilsa Vaarna is a legend in the operating theater, a surgeon whose hands are as steady as her heart is cold. For her, emotion is a fatal flaw, a luxury she excised from herself long ago. Her new personal assistant, Lauri Salo, is her complete opposite: a warm, observant man whose quiet competence is a constant, unnerving presence in her meticulously ordered life. When Ilsa wakes up not in her sterile apartment but in a lavish, isolated sanatorium on the island of Surusilta - a place that shouldn't exist - Lauri is the only other person there. The island offers a cure for the very thing Ilsa fears most: the tremors that threaten to end her career. As Lauri's gentle persistence begins to thaw her icy exterior, Ilsa finds herself drawn to the warmth she has always denied herself. But Surusilta has its own rules and its own price. Is the promised cure a reward for her genius, or the ultimate trap for a heart she is only just learning how to use?
