The Ixen Illusion

My morning was perfectly ordinary - brewing a cup of bitter chaff-tea - right up until a mutated Vrak-Stalker crashed through my kitchen ceiling. It was a grim reminder that the aristocratic Ixen families were letting our district rot while they lived in the clouds. I have spent years quietly and ruthlessly planning to dismantle their oppressive regime from the inside. When Cazien, a notorious playboy, offers me a fake dating contract to win a cruel bet against his rival friends, I accept without hesitation. He is my perfect Trojan Horse into the Prism-Spire. I care nothing for romance; my only goal is the Xyric Reliquary. But Cazien is a complication. Beneath his careless smirks, he carves delicate glass sculptures, blushing fiercely when I genuinely compliment his skill. When my heels break at the Sun-Ebb Gala, his eyes darken with terrifying possessiveness as he sweeps me into his arms, carrying me bridal style past his sneering peers. He falls first, his heart shattering the night I coldly remind him our contract is ending. Yet, as my mentor Ostran guides me to the final vault, I realize my ultimate prize is a cage. Can I break the cycle of betrayal without destroying the only man who truly sees me?
