“Not like this,” Tenam growled, his voice a low thrum of fury, a sound that usually preceded the demolition of something expensive. His calloused hand darted to the bulky rucksack strapped to his back, a container of his most prized, volatile produce. He sidestepped Yonten's slash and ignored the artillery blast, hauling two massive heads of Emperor brassica from the sack. Emerald light pulsed through their tightly wrapped leaves, each dense as river granite and hot with pressurized sap.
With a low growl, Tenam hurled both spheres straight into the path of the incoming siege beam. Yonten stumbled forward as his blue slash whined through empty air, missing by inches.
The vanguard's blazing beam struck the first vegetable head-on. Rather than disintegrating, the brassica drank the raw power, swelling like dry clay hit by a flash flood while the second head caught the run-off and began to thrum.

With a sound like a thousand splitting timbers, the cabbages didn't burst, they *grew*. Vines, thick as Tenam’s arm and pulsing with vibrant sap, erupted from their cores. They snaked outwards, tendrils snapping and whipping with furious, uncontrolled life. The cannon’s beam, still feeding into the first cabbage, was redirected, twisted, and converted into pure, accelerant growth. A colossal climbing shoot, its leaves broad as Rachok's wingspan, ripped upward through the stone tiles of the lowest level.
“What in the blazes?!” the vanguard commander shrieked, scrambling back as the botanical surge crushed his front rank. The massive vine trunk coiled around the heavy siege weapon's bronze barrel, constricting until the metal creaked and sheared. The breached mechanism backfired, spraying white sparks and iron fragments across the hall.
The resulting blast rippled through the floor slabs, pitching Yonten sideways as his spell snuffed out. Tenam kept his footing, watching the crystalline shell around Zempa fracture into jagged webs.
Cracks, fine as spiderwebs, raced across the translucent surface of Zempa’s confinement. The structure groaned, a sound of deep, ancient strain. The commander, his ranks routed and his battery ruined, snatched a dropped trenching tool from the gravel and lunged toward the cracked surface.
“If I can’t have her, no one can!” the man snarled, swinging the iron spike with both hands.
Before the spike could land, a shadow dropped from the vault above. Rachok screeched, talons scraping flagstones, and snapped his hooked beak shut on the commander's forearm. Bone snapped under the bite; the beast wrenched backward, tearing the limb away and slinging the tool into the crevasse plowed open by the expanding roots.
The luminous barrier buckled under the root pressure and the detonation's aftershock. It flared violet, then caved inward, showering crystalline splinters that vanished into mist before striking the flags.
Zempa, freed from her long confinement, swayed. She was no longer encased in light, but she seemed to shimmer, a woman made of starlight and memory, her eyes closed, her dark hair unbound. She was falling. Tenam caught her against his chest, bracing against her slight frame as her dark tresses brushed his collar.
[ *Dungeon Heart De-synchronization. Spire Anti-Gravity Array: CRITICAL FAILURE.* ]
A brass horn sounded through the corridors of the Galdan Spire. The colossal structure, a floating mountain that had defied gravity for eons, shuddered. A deep, resonant thrum vibrated through Tenam’s bones, growing stronger, more insistent. The 1st floor tilted violently, throwing Yonten to his knees. Outside, beyond the newly formed abyss, the other levels of the Spire began to drift, like ice floes breaking apart. The monolith began a slow, shuddering descent toward the ruined plains of Orakhan below.
