The Grand Wailea’s subterranean arcade and entertainment complex was a neon-drenched sensory overload. The air hummed with the synthesized bleeps of retro games, the rhythmic clatter of air hockey pucks, and the triumphant jingles of ticket dispensers.
For Ji-won, it was pure, unadulterated paradise.
"Double or nothing, Ji-won!" Leo shouted over the booming electronic soundtrack of *Dance Dance Revolution*. He was practically bouncing on the pads, his sun-bleached hair flying everywhere, his forehead slick with sweat. "If I hit a five-hundred-combo on this hard track, you buy the afternoon nachos! If I miss, Maya pays for everything!"
"Hey! Why am I collateral in your bad dance decisions?!" Maya yelled from a nearby racing simulator, though she was laughing so hard she almost drove her digital Ferrari off a cliff.
Ji-won stood by the coin machine, holding a giant plastic cup overflowing with game tokens. He was laughing so hard his cheeks hurt, his eyes sparkling under the flashing arcade lights. "You're at four-hundred-and-eighty, Leo! Don't mess up the backstep!"
"I never mess up the—*WHOA!*" Leo’s foot slipped on a high-speed double arrow, sending him flailing wildly before crashing into the foam padding behind the machine.
Maya cheered hysterically. "Nachos for everyone on Leo's tab!"
Ji-won giggled, leaning against a glowing *Jurassic Park* arcade cabinet to catch his breath. For two whole hours, he hadn't thought about Lu Sheng, corporate espionage, or encrypted satellite phones. He was just a normal guy playing games with normal friends.
He had no idea that thirty feet away, behind a giant plastic palm tree near the prize counter, three towering men in absurd disguises were conducting a high-level military surveillance operation.
"Target is smiling," Min-jun reported into a tiny walkie-talkie, his dark eyes locked onto Ji-won through a pair of fake, oversized nose-and-glasses novelties. He was wearing a Hawaiian tropical print bucket hat pulled down to his brows and a black trench coat over his swim trunks. "Subject exhibits elevated levels of endorphins. The male civilian in the neon swim shorts just attempted a physical maneuver on the dancing platform and failed spectacularly. Threat level remains low."
"I told you he’s a golden retriever!" Do-hyun hissed from behind a tall claw machine. Do-hyun was wearing a giant, plush mascot head of a Hawaiian sea turtle that he had bribed a resort staff member fifty dollars to borrow, along with a flower lei wrapped three times around his neck. "Look at him, Min-jun! Our baby brother is making friends! He’s thriving! If that neon-pants guy hurts his feelings, I will crush him with this claw machine!"
"The probability of physical conflict in a ticket-based arcade is statistically negligible," Ji-ho noted calmly. Ji-ho was crouching behind an *X-Men* cabinet wearing a dark hoodie, a fake mustache that kept peeling off at the corner, and a pair of night-vision goggles that were completely unnecessary in a brightly lit room. "However, the linguistic vernacular of these North American teenagers is fascinating. The female individual just utilized the phrase 'epic fail' in a non-ironic context."
"Keep your voices down!" Min-jun ordered, ducking lower as Leo turned around to grab more tokens. "If Ji-won spots us, he will think we don't trust his independence. We must remain invisible."
"Min-jun, you are wearing a trench coat in ninety-degree Hawaiian humidity," Do-hyun pointed out muffled inside his giant turtle head. "You look like a villain from a cheap spy movie."
"It provides structural concealment for my concealed tablet," Min-jun retorted coldly.
Meanwhile, back at the air hockey table, Maya slammed the puck straight past Leo's paddle with a satisfying *CLACK*.
"Game set and match!" Maya declared, raising her arms in victory. "That's five games to none, little brother. You owe Ji-won and me ice cream."
"I demand a rematch!" Leo groaned, dropping his paddle. "Ji-won, tell her she cheated with her weird wrist angle!"
"She definitely didn't cheat," Ji-won laughed, wiping a tear of amusement from his eye. "You just kept looking at the ticket counter every time she served!"
"Fine, fine," Leo sighed, waving a hand generously. "Ice cream it is! I think there's a soft-serve stand right past that giant fake palm tree—"
Leo froze.
Ji-won blinked. "What's wrong?"
Leo squinted at the giant plastic palm tree, then at the claw machine next to it. "Uh... Ji-won? Is it normal for Hawaiian resort claw machines to have a giant sea turtle mascot hiding behind them holding a walkie-talkie?"
Ji-won slowly turned his head.
Standing near the prize counter, perfectly framed by neon lights, was a man in a trench coat and fake nose-glasses, a guy in a hood with a peeling mustache, and a giant mascot sea turtle that was currently trying—and failing—to blend in with a plastic palm tree.
The sea turtle slowly raised a plush flipper and gave a small, timid wave.
Ji-won’s jaw dropped. The crimson blush started at his neck and flooded all the way up to the tips of his ears.
"HYUNGS?!" Ji-won shrieked, his voice echoing across the entire arcade.
Min-jun instantly straightened up, ripping off his fake nose-glasses with corporate efficiency. "Abort mission. We've been compromised."
"I told you the trench coat was too much!" Do-hyun yelled from inside the turtle head, frantically trying to pull the heavy mascot costume off his shoulders while tripping over a stack of arcade tickets. "Ji-won-ah! It's not what it looks like! We were just... inspecting the arcade's structural integrity!"
Ji-ho casually peeled off his fake mustache and tucked his night-vision goggles into his pocket. "Technically, our perimeter observation was sixty-eight percent successful until the mascot costume altered our visual footprint."
Maya and Leo stared at the three billionaire brothers in absolute, jaw-dropping silence.
"Are... are those your brothers?" Maya asked slowly, her eyes wide as dinner plates.
Ji-won buried his red face directly into his hands, groaning in pure, unadulterated embarrassment. "I don't know them. I've never seen these men in my entire life."
Do-hyun finally managed to pop the giant turtle head off, his hair wildly disheveled, grinning sheepishly as he ran over to Ji-won's side. "Don't be like that, sweetie! We were just protecting you! Plus, I won you three thousand arcade tickets while we were waiting!" He dramatically dumped a massive, mountain-like pile of paper tickets directly into Leo's arms.
Leo looked down at the literal mountain of tickets in his hands, then up at Do-hyun's beaming face, his eyes lighting up like Christmas trees. "Dude... you just won enough tickets for the giant giant plush octopus at the prize counter!"
Do-hyun blinked, his protective anger instantly melting into pure pride. "Really? The giant one?"
"Yeah!" Leo beamed, offering a high-five. "You're an absolute legend, Turtle Bro!"
Do-hyun high-fived Leo so hard the sound echoed off the ceiling. "Turtle Bro! I like this kid! Min-jun, buy them all the ice cream in the hotel!"
Min-jun let out a long, long sigh, rubbing his temples, but as he looked at Ji-won—who was no longer stressed, no longer terrified, but standing among his brothers and new friends laughing freely under the neon lights—a rare, faint smile touched the corner of Executive Kang's lips.
For today, the dark clouds had cleared.
