The Co-Host

String lights crisscrossed high above the open living area, casting a moody violet-and-gold glow across the sleek hardwood floors. Paris adjusted the delicate straps of her black velvet slip dress, taking a brief breath as low bass vibrated through the floorboards.
Beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, the city skyline gleamed in the dark, but inside, every detail was set for the evening. Heavy crystal glasses lined the marble bar, candles flickered in cluster arrangements, and neon signs shimmered softly against the dark walls.
"Everything running on schedule, host?"
Paris turned to find Adam leaning against the doorway, looking effortlessly sharp in a tailored dark button-down shirt with the top buttons casually undone. He carried an undeniable confidence, his smile breaking through the quiet stillness of the empty room.
"Perfect," Paris said, stepping toward him as he wrapped his arm comfortably around her waist. "Though I have a feeling this crowd isn't going to stick strictly to quiet conversation once the drinks start flowing."
"That's exactly the point," Adam murmured, pulling her a fraction closer.
A sharp chime echoed from the front entryway, signaling their first arrivals. In a matter of minutes, the front door became a revolving entrance for their closest friend group. Couples poured into the foyer wearing striking cocktail attire—deep ruby silks, forest greens, and sharp navy blazers that stood out against the ambient lighting. Adam instantly took up his position behind the bar, mixing signature cocktails with practiced ease, while Paris moved effortlessly between groups, welcoming everyone into the warm, electric atmosphere they had built for the night.
