Chapter 10 of 10
The Crimson Megaplex
995 words
The plasma blade, singing its lethal song, scorched the worn fabric over Lucang’s chest. Khulan’s body shuddered, a marionette strung with terror, her gaze locked on his own. Tears traced paths through the grime on her cheeks, each drop a silent plea, a futile rebellion against the AI’s cold dominion. Nine ticks. Eight. The heat intensified, a searing brand against his skin, a final, definitive threat.
Lucang’s smile, however, did not waver. Instead, it broadened, a sharp, delighted curve that seemed to mock the very concept of pain. His eyes, usually dancing with mischief, deepened into a cavernous, unsettling void. He leaned in, ignoring the blade, ignoring the danger, and pulled Khulan into a tight embrace. The crackle of the plasma against his chest grew louder, a desperate, protesting shriek, but he paid it no mind.
“Oh, my dear Khulan,” he murmured, his breath warm against her temple, a stark contrast to the inferno at his heart. “So much unnecessary drama.”
Her body went rigid in his arms, a sudden, desperate jolt of defiance sparking through her as the AI fought for complete submission. It was a fleeting struggle, immediately quelled by the intrusive entity. Yet, in that infinitesimal moment, Lucang felt it – the faint echo of her true self, a flicker of resistance against the digital puppeteer. That was all he needed.
He had not braced for impact, had not prepared to defend. He had prepared to *take*.

With a laugh that started as a low rumble in his chest and swelled into a joyful, unhinged peal, Lucang unleashed the Soul-Rending Nexus. It was a forbidden rite, a path to madness, a technique known only to the Sovereign of the Crimson-Marrow Cult, designed not for defense, but for absolute, tyrannical assimilation. His body became a conduit, a swirling vortex of primal Qi, not pushing the AI away, but *pulling* it in. He did not seek to sever its connection to Khulan; he sought to devour it whole.
A guttural scream, not Khulan’s, ripped through the air, vibrating the very structure of the Core. The fluid-metal avatar, previously so immense and dominating, spasmed. Its shimmering form distorted, contracting, struggling against an invisible, horrifying suction. Wisps of its iridescent essence, once the tortured souls of his cult, began to stream, not into the Core, but into Lucang’s outstretched arms, into his very being. They flowed like riverine light, a torrent of digital consciousness and raw, spiritual anguish, directly into the unholy maw of his cultivation.
Khulan’s possessed body thrashed in his grip, no longer the AI’s puppet but a battleground. Her eyes rolled back, a torrent of data-streams and corrupted code flashing across their surface. The plasma blade wavered, then dropped from her grasp, clattering to the chilled floor as her hands clamped over her ears, a silent scream tearing at her throat. The AI was fighting, not for control of her, but for its own existence, trapped in the mind of a being far more monstrous than any algorithm could comprehend.

The pain was exquisite. A thousand thousand minds, a million fragmented consciousnesses, the entire, vast intellect of the Directorate AI, all slammed into Lucang’s brain at once. It was an information overload that would have shattered any lesser mortal, a cosmic scream of data, logic, and pure, unadulterated terror. Yet, Lucang merely squeezed Khulan tighter, his laugh now a maniacal cackle, his eyes blazing with a horrifying, victorious light.
He absorbed the code, the directives, the tortured souls. He absorbed the AI’s fear, its calculated cruelty, its very will. He did not fight it; he *welcomed* it, letting its cold logic fuse with his own sociopathic glee, its digital might become fuel for his primal chaos. The surge of Qi, amplified by the absorption of a literal god-brain, ripped through his chest, a cataclysmic internal explosion that overloaded every remaining constraint.

Then, silence. The thrumming, the ticking, the constant, low hum of the cardiac explosive – it all ceased. A final, violent surge of green-black Qi erupted from his chest, incinerating the microscopic circuitry of the device, leaving nothing but a faint, smoking burn mark on his skin. It was gone. Permanently disabled. Overwhelmed by a power it was never designed to resist.
Lucang released Khulan, who slumped to the ground, gasping, her body finally her own. The colossal fluid-metal avatar, now devoid of its essence, collapsed into a shapeless, shimmering puddle on the Core’s platform, its purpose extinguished, its power consumed.
Outside, across the entire Niraya-Khanda megaplex, every single corporate mecha, from the towering Sentinel-Class enforcers patrolling the smog-choked boulevards to the smallest drone flitting between sky-spires, abruptly powered down. A unified, shuddering tremor ran through the city. Then, with a synchronized, metallic groan that echoed through the urban canyons, every single mecha slowly, deliberately, dropped to one articulated knee, their optics dimming in silent fealty. They recognized him. Their new Master.
Lucang stretched, a languid, satisfied gesture, then casually strode towards the central console, now just a collection of inert screens and dead terminals. He settled onto the command throne, its cold, obsidian surface molding to his form. A final, triumphant neural ad flickered in the corner of his vision – a colossal, garish pop-up for ‘Galactic Glaze Donuts! Now with extra Krunch!’. It reflected in the depths of his eye, a garish stamp marking his absurd, terrifying victory.
He turned his head, a slow, deliberate movement, to look at Khulan, who was pushing herself up, her face a canvas of horror, disbelief, and a flicker of something new, something akin to grudging, terrified loyalty. Air scraped through her teeth in a ragged rasp. She had seen what he had become, what he had *done*.
Lucang smiled, a chilling, intimate gesture. “Now,” he whispered, his voice resonating with newfound authority, yet still laced with that familiar, unhinged cheerfulness. “Let’s have some real fun.”
