Chapter 20: Stinging Alliance

Screams ripped through the night. Gotham shook. From the black depths of the harbor, a colossal, twisted form clawed its way into the city's skyline. Ancient, malevolent energy pulsed from its mountainous frame, tearing concrete apart with ease. Its eyes, burning crimson, fixed on the distant Wayne Tower.
"That's not just an akuma," Nightwing breathed, his voice tight with disbelief. He stood beside Batman and Robin, perched on a neighboring skyscraper, the wind whipping at their capes.
Red Hood snorted. "No kidding, genius. Looks like a mutated Godzilla on steroids."
Ladybug’s heart hammered against her ribs. Fear, cold and sharp, pierced through her. This creature was massive, unlike anything she had ever faced. Gabriel Agreste's successor was playing a different, far more dangerous game.
Batman’s jaw was a granite slab. "Oracle, status report. Evacuation zones? Civilian casualties?"
"Mass panic, B," Barbara's voice crackled through their comms, strained. "The thing is radiating a fear-inducing aura. People are trampling each other. Evacuation is slow, chaos everywhere. It's moving surprisingly fast for its size."
Robin, Damian, gripped his katana. "It must be stopped before it reaches the populated districts. We engage now."
"Hold," Batman commanded, his gaze sweeping over the monstrous entity. "Its power signature… it's off the charts. We need a strategy. Brute force will just get us pulverized."
Ladybug stepped forward, her yo-yo already spinning. "No time for caution. It's an akuma, just a bigger one. It has a single point of weakness, probably an object it absorbed. We need to find it and purify it."
"And how do we get close to something that size?" Red Robin asked, his visor scanning the creature. "It's tearing through buildings like paper. Our grappling hooks won't even reach its head without a significant boost."
Flames erupted from the kaiju's maw, incinerating a block of offices instantly. Heat washed over them, searing their skin even from their distance. The air filled with the stench of burning metal and ozone.
"Robin, Nightwing, focus on civilian protection," Batman ordered. "Red Hood, Red Robin, provide aerial distractions, draw its attention away from the core city. Ladybug and I will look for an opening."
They launched themselves into the night. Nightwing and Robin descended, guiding panicked crowds, their voices calm but firm amidst the pandemonium. Red Hood's guns chattered, explosive rounds peppering the kaiju's rocky hide, producing only faint sparks. Red Robin's bo staff whipped, creating diversions, but the creature barely seemed to notice their presence.
Ladybug soared on her yo-yo, circling the behemoth. It moved with a slow, deliberate destructiveness, each step crushing vehicles, collapsing structures. Her Lucky Charm, if it even worked on something this large, would be a gamble. She needed more. More power. More hands.
Her gaze fell on Batman, who was already analyzing the kaiju's movement patterns, searching for weaknesses. She trusted him implicitly, but this was her fight, her responsibility. This was Hawkmoth.
*He needs to be stopped. I need more help. But… Chat Noir…*
Marinette's mind reeled. The thought of entrusting a Miraculous to anyone else, especially the Cat, brought a pang of deep, unforgotten pain. Adrien's loss still echoed. She couldn't replace him. She wouldn't. Not permanently. But the situation demanded an immediate, temporary solution.
She landed beside Batman on a crumbling rooftop. "Batman, this creature's energy signature… it feels ancient. Like the stories from the Miraculous grimoire. It's not just a person akumatized. It's an entity, amplified."
"My scans confirm a unique energy matrix, far beyond standard akuma levels," Batman confirmed, his voice grave. "It's drawing power from the very ley lines beneath Gotham, feeding on the city's negative emotions. Hawkmoth isn't just controlling it; he's *unleashing* it."
"I need an assist," Ladybug declared, her voice firm despite the tremor in her hands. "A direct combat Miraculous holder. Someone skilled, disciplined, who won't hesitate."
Batman turned, his cape billowing. His eyes, usually unreadable, held a flicker of surprise, then understanding. "You have others?"
"Temporarily," she clarified. "For extreme situations. This is one. We need someone who can get close, immobilize it, create an opening. Someone with a sting."
Her eyes swept over the chaotic scene, past Nightwing and Red Hood, past Red Robin. Damian. He was ruthless, efficient, and utterly dedicated. He would understand the gravity. He wouldn't question. He would execute.
"Robin," she called out, her voice amplified by her mask. "Get to my position! Now!"
Robin, still assisting civilians, looked up, his movements fluid as he disengaged from the crowd. He launched himself towards them, landing silently.
"Ladybug, what is your plan?" he asked, his tone crisp.
Her chest tightened. This was a massive risk. Entrusting a Miraculous, even for a short time, was a sacred trust, a secret she guarded with her life. But Gotham was bleeding. This wasn't just a Parisian threat anymore. This was *their* city.
"Robin," she began, pulling a small, hexagonal box from her yo-yo bag. It glowed faintly, a golden hum emanating from within. "This is not a toy. This is a weapon. A power that comes with immense responsibility. You will use it only to stop this creature. And when it is over, you will return it to me. Immediately. Do you understand?"
Damian’s eyes, usually narrowed in suspicion or judgment, widened slightly. He saw the box, the magic it radiated. He didn't flinch. His gaze held steady, unwavering.
"I understand," he replied, his voice a low rumble. "What is it?"
"This is the Miraculous of the Bee," Ladybug explained, her hand trembling slightly as she opened the box. A bright, golden light erupted, revealing a small, jeweled hair comb. Pollen, the Kwami of Subjection, zipped out, buzzing excitedly around Damian, then hovered, inspecting him.
"Hello there, new wielder!" Pollen chirped, her tiny antennae twitching. "You look quite serious for a Bee!"
Damian stared at the floating creature, a flicker of something akin to awe in his dark eyes, quickly masked. He reached for the comb. His fingers closed around the cool metal.
"Pollen, buzz on!" Ladybug instructed, her voice clear. She had to believe in him. She had to trust.
Damian’s expression remained grim. "Pollen, buzz on!"
A blinding golden light enveloped him. His green and red uniform was replaced by sleek, form-fitting black, crisscrossed with vibrant yellow stripes. A high collar rose to his chin, and a golden bee emblem adorned his chest. A mask, reminiscent of a bee's eyes, covered his face, and a sharp, pointed weapon, a *trompo*, appeared in his hand. He looked lethal, formidable. A true warrior.
Queen Bee, for the moment. Or King Bee, perhaps, she mused internally. The Kwami didn't care for gender.
"The *trompo* can be used to immobilize targets," Ladybug explained rapidly, her eyes scanning the kaiju's destructive path. "It's called Venomy. Once you sting it, the target is paralyzed for a short time. We need to aim for a critical joint, or its eyes. Create a window for me to find the akuma."
"Understood," Damian, now Bee, replied, his voice deeper, more resonant. He tested the weight of his *trompo*, a predatory gleam in his eyes. This was a challenge he understood.
"Batman, we have a new player," Ladybug announced over the comms. "Bee is on point. We need to distract it enough for him to land a clean hit."
"Acknowledged," Batman’s voice came back, calm and steady. "Red Hood, Red Robin, intensify aerial assault. Nightwing, Robin, maintain perimeter and civilian safety. I'll draw its attention."
Batman launched his Batwing, a sleek, black jet, towards the kaiju. Machine gun fire ripped across its scaly hide, drawing a guttural roar from the beast. It turned its massive head, its crimson eyes locking onto the aircraft, and unleashed another wave of fiery breath.
Bee moved. He was a blur of black and yellow, a stark contrast to the dark city. He scaled a crumbling building, leaping from ledge to crumbling ledge with impossible agility, his *trompo* spinning in his hand. He was focused, a single-minded missile.
Ladybug used her yo-yo, swinging low, searching for any anomaly, any glowing object that might be the akuma. The kaiju's roar vibrated through her bones, a primal sound of destruction. It swatted at the Batwing like an annoying fly, its massive claw tearing off a piece of the wing.
"Batman, you're taking too much damage!" Ladybug yelled.
Bee, ignoring the chaos, reached a height parallel to the kaiju's shoulder. With a powerful leap, he launched himself through the air, his *trompo* arcing outwards. He aimed for a joint, a weakness where the massive arm connected to the torso.
His weapon struck true. A flash of golden energy erupted, and a guttural, surprised howl tore from the kaiju's throat. Its colossal arm, mid-swing, froze. The creature staggered, momentarily unbalanced, its crimson eyes wide with something akin to confusion.
"It's working!" Ladybug shouted, a surge of hope, cold and exhilarating, flooding her. "It's paralyzed! Everyone, focus fire! Create an opening!"
The Bat-family unleashed their full arsenal. Explosions rocked the kaiju's body. Batman, despite the damaged Batwing, continued to strafe it. Red Hood's rounds found their mark, creating craters in its hide. Red Robin's grappling hooks attempted to tether its other arm, to prevent it from recovering.
Ladybug, empowered by the temporary success, threw her yo-yo. "Lucky Charm!"
A giant, inflatable rubber duck appeared in her hands. She blinked. A rubber duck? Against a kaiju? Of course.
Her Ladybug vision highlighted several points: the frozen arm, a collapsing water tower nearby, and a weakened support beam on a building that had been partially destroyed. The plan clicked into place, absurd yet brilliant.
"Red Robin, target that water tower! Nightwing, get civilians away from the collapsing beam!" she yelled. "Bee, how long will the paralysis last?"
"Approximately one minute, Ladybug!" Bee's voice was strained, the effort evident. "It is fighting the effect!"
One minute. Not much time. The kaiju was already twitching, its frozen arm vibrating. It was powerful, far more resilient than she'd anticipated. Even with the Bee Miraculous, this fight was far from over. This wasn't just a physical battle; it felt like a struggle against the very essence of chaos that Hawkmoth was unleashing upon Gotham. The scale of his new power was terrifying, and she knew, with a dreadful certainty, that this single battle would define the fate of their two worlds. The kaiju roared, its mouth opening wider, a torrent of dark, swirling energy beginning to gather in its maw, aimed directly at the heart of the city, its paralysis weakening. She needed to act, and fast, but the odds were still impossibly stacked against them. There was more to this creature, more to Hawkmoth's plan, than she had accounted for, and as the dark energy surged, she knew this might be their last stand, a desperate gamble against an enemy who now wielded forces beyond anything she could have imagined. This was not just a battle for Gotham, but for the very soul of the planet, and they were losing. What if even all of them, together, wasn't enough? What if this was the end?
