Echoes of the Shattered Muse

Told in alternating perspectives between the proud, prickly artisan Brisela and her fiercely devoted partner Khaidan, the story opens mid-brawl. Brisela is fighting off a masked intruder in her workshop when her wealthy, elegant cousin Jovena rushes in, 'trips,' and permanently shatters the memory-restoring glass masterpiece Brisela spent years crafting for her ailing mother. Expecting Brisela to explode into an unhinged rage so she can be branded a madwoman, Jovena plays the soft-spoken, weeping victim to perfection. But she severely underestimates Khaidan. He doesn't just see through the act; he uses his authority as High Arbiter to systematically isolate Jovena, severing her access to the city's elite circles without a second thought. As Brisela and Khaidan trace the origins of the break-in, a melancholic twist emerges: the city-wide epidemic of stolen memories and Jovena's petty familial sabotage are the exact same conspiracy. Roxana, Brisela's haughty traditionalist rival, joins forces with them upon discovering the truth. Armed with a hidden resonance-crystal that recorded Jovena's deliberate sabotage, Brisela prepares for the Grand Exhibition. Can she publicly ruin her cousin and restore her mother's mind before the memory-thieves silence them forever?
