Synopsis

When terminally ill archivist Alistair Vance is pulled from his dying hospital bed into the decaying fantasy realm of Oakhaven, he finds himself bound to a crumbling, sentient throne. Rather than inheriting legendary power, Alistair receives the 'Toll of the Usurper' - a cursed system that demands he sacrifice his own fleeting lifeforce to construct golems, mend shattered magic, and defend a dying kingdom that despises him. Surrounded by hostile beastfolk and betrayal from within the court, Alistair must manage his rapidly depleting life span while expanding Oakhaven's borders. Every victory costs him months of life; every defeat edges him closer to a permanent grave. As dark empires march toward his borders, Alistair realizes he cannot afford to be a benevolent savior. To survive, he must become a ruthless sovereign, trading his humanity piece by piece for the power to defy death itself. The throne demands blood, and his is running out.
