California besties

Seven-year-old Amanda is uprooted from everything she knows when her parents drag her, her eleven-year-old sister, and her fourteen-year-old brother across the country to California. Lost in the golden haze of a new suburban world, Amanda's anxiety melts away when she meets Maya on her first day of school. Together, they form an unbreakable bond, navigating the chaotic milestones of youth: the thrill of getting their first phones at eleven, the awkwardness of puberty, and the sting of first crushes. Guided by her dual passions for the fierce competition of softball and the discipline of ballet, Amanda strives for perfection. But as they grow toward sixteen, the pressure to maintain her flawless image threatens to tear her apart. When academic rivalry and teenage secrets test their friendship, Amanda must decide if keeping up appearances is worth losing the one person who has been her anchor through it all.
