Synopsis

For generations, the crumbling Estate of Blackwood Manor has stood as a defiant sentinel against the encroaching gloom of the Blighted Marches, its ancient lineage of nobles slowly fading under a pervasive curse. Outside its failing wards, the tendrils of the Nether-Deep writhe, seeking purchase, whispering promises of madness and decay. Kaelen, the manor's solitary groundskeeper, knows nothing of grand destinies or heroic stands. His world is one of dirt, pruning shears, and the slow, arduous work of maintaining a garden that stubbornly refuses to succumb to the rot. He seeks only quietude, to tend his small patch of order, and to remain unnoticed by the fading lords or the creeping shadow-things that occasionally slip through the frayed boundaries. He has no desire for power, only for peace and the simple satisfaction of a well-kept hedge. Yet, with each painstaking day that turns into a year, then a decade, Kaelen's meticulous care, his silent, ingrained rituals, and his profound connection to the land begin to weave something far greater than he comprehends. He persists, enduring countless encroaching horrors, simply by *being* there, steadfast and observant.
