The Shattering Truth

towards Narine. His form surged forward in rage, but Tavitri’s vocal cord vibrations wrapped around the chaotic feedback, pulling it taut, redirecting its destructive force away from the young artisan. Narine, protected by the shimmering shield of Tavitri’s melody, moved with swift precision. She evaded Garegin’s grasping hand, her own darting into the cage. With a triumphant cry, she snatched not only the intricate vial of concentrated poison, but also a small, leather-bound volume that had been tucked beneath it.
“This isn’t merely poison, Lord Moros!” Narine’s voice cut through the clamor, sharp and clear. She held up the delicate vial, its contents a swirling, dark nebula. “This is an acoustic venom, designed to amplify grief into destructive waves!” She then thrust the worn journal forward, pages fluttering open. “And this… this is your daughter’s research! Her notes on a counter-agent, on how she was trying to *cure* what she thought was her own uncontrolled harmonics!”
Garegin froze, teeth bared in an ugly grimace as he recognized the journal. The careful edifice of his deception, built over years of subtle manipulation, crumbled around him. He had dismissed the daughter's private writings as childish ramblings, never imagining she had pieced together the insidious truth.
“Lies! All lies!” he bellowed, lunging again, no longer for the evidence, but for the table where Lord Moros’s untouched vessel of tea sat. He snatched it, the dark liquid swirling violently within. His gaze fixed on Tavitri. “You interfere, little songbird? You expose my genius? I’ll finish what I started!”
He surged forward, the poisoned cup raised high, intent on striking Tavitri. Her song faltered, breath catching in her throat at the malice aimed squarely at her. Moros, still swaying, caught the flash of movement. He saw Tavitri step back, her pitch faltering. He saw the glint of crystal, remembered the bitter brew forced on him through so many nights, the hollow ache that had followed.
A cold fury, unlike any grief, surged through him. The cloud that had perpetually hazed his perception ripped apart, revealing the sharp, terrible clarity of betrayal. He moved. Not with the ponderous slowness that had defined him for years, but with the lean, coiled power of a hunter. It was a speed no one in the room could have anticipated. One moment, he was half-collapsed against his chair; the next, he was directly in Garegin’s path, a phantom blur of motion.
The chalice, meant for Tavitri’s head, struck Moros’s shoulder with a heavy crack. He did not flinch. A low growl tore from his chest. He locked one broad hand around Garegin’s wrist and twisted. Bone popped; the vessel wrenched free from the steward's grip, spinning through the air. It crashed against the polished obsidian floor, splintering into clear shards while dark tea pooled over the stone.
Moros shoved Garegin back with a force that sent the frail man stumbling, crashing into a nearby plinth. The air in the study thickened, not with chaotic rending, but with a deep, focused hum that originated from Moros himself. It pulsed outward, vibrating through the crystalline architecture of the Spire, steady and unbroken. His eyes, usually shadowed and distant, burned with a cold, clear flame, fixing on Garegin with an intensity that promised retribution.
He stood tall, spine straight and shoulders square. The pitch of his power, once a wild manifestation of despair, held firm under his will. It solidified around Tavitri, an unyielding acoustic barrier. His gaze never left Garegin, who lay sprawled on the floor, breath rasping. The words, when they came, were a low growl, devoid of sorrow, steeped only in absolute, unyielding fury.
“You will never touch her again.”
The resonant hum in the room intensified, a silent promise of consequences. Garegin, looking up at the figure of his lord, finally saw not the broken, grief-stricken man he had cultivated, but a force of nature reawakened. And then, Moros slowly turned his head, his gaze finding Tavitri’s, the intensity in his eyes softening, yet still fierce, a silent question passing between them: *Are you harmed?* The air crackled with a newfound potential, a future unburdened by shadows, yet still perched on the precipice of reckoning.
