How to Use Novel AI Step-by-Step for Beginners

This tutorial walks you through the entire Novel AI Studio workflow - from creating your account to generating and publishing your first AI novel. Follow along step by step.

Step 1: Create your account

Download Novel AI Studio from the App Store or Google Play. Sign up with your email or social account. You'll instantly receive 100 free credits - enough to generate 5 complete novel foundations or write 10 chapters.

Step 2: Choose your genre

Open the Create tab. The most important field is Genre - it shapes everything from the AI's writing style to the cover art aesthetic. Novel AI Studio supports 74+ genres including Fantasy, Xianxia, System/LitRPG, Romance, Sci-Fi, Horror, and more.

Start typing to search, or browse the suggestions. Pick the genre that matches your vision.

Step 3: Fill in your novel details (optional)

Every field except Genre is optional. But the more detail you provide, the more personalized your novel will be:

• Title - Leave blank for the AI to generate one, or type your own.
• Character Name & Ability - "Kai" with "time manipulation" will produce a very different story than leaving these blank.
• Character Personality - Choose from presets like Cold, Cheerful, Calculating, or Ruthless. This dramatically changes the protagonist's voice.
• World Name & Setting - "The Nine Heavens Realm, ancient cultivation world" gives the AI rich context.
• Power System - "Qi cultivation with 9 major realms" shapes the entire progression system.

Step 4: Generate your novel

Type a description of your novel idea in the prompt bar at the bottom, or leave it empty to let the AI decide. Tap the send button. In about 30–60 seconds, the AI will create:

• A polished title and description
• 5 relevant tags
• A unique AI-generated cover image
• A 5-arc Narrative Roadmap spanning 100 chapters

You'll land on the Preview screen where you can review everything before writing your first chapter.

Step 5: Review your roadmap

The Narrative Roadmap is the backbone of your story. Each arc contains a title, chapter range, story beats, power progression, and transition to the next arc. Tap any arc to edit it - you can rename arcs, adjust chapter ranges, add story beats, or rewrite transitions.

You can add up to 10 arcs if you're planning an epic. The AI references this roadmap every time it generates a chapter.

Step 6: Write your first chapter

Use the prompt bar at the bottom of the screen. Type what should happen in the first chapter - for example, "The hero wakes up in a dungeon with no memory" - or leave it empty to let the AI follow the first arc's story beats.

Tap send and your first chapter appears in seconds. Each chapter is 1,200–1,500 words of polished prose with dialogue, action, and internal monologue.

Step 7: Edit, publish, and share

From the Edit screen, you can modify chapter titles and content, toggle chapters as published, and continue generating new chapters. Once you're happy with your novel, toggle it to public and it'll appear in the Explore library for everyone to read.
