Hunt of the Blood Sovereign
By @john1208
I plunge my silver-coated cleaver into the rot-hound’s neck, the beast’s shrieks swallowed by the thick, oppressive fog of Tarnstead. I didn't flee the opulent nightmare of Drazhan’s estate just to die in the mud. In the original novel, The Chronicles of Ghulven, I was destined to be this ancient Vampire Sovereign's final sacrifice - the blood-vessel that would trigger his apocalyptic ascension. So, I ran. I hid in this impoverished, starving peat-mining village, adopting a fiercely stubborn orphan girl named Valka and fighting tooth and nail to protect our quiet life. I thought we were safe. I thought the scent-masking potions from my trusted friend, the apothecary Tavric, were working. But yesterday, Valka wandered too close to a passing aristocratic carriage on the main road and locked eyes with Drazhan himself. Now, the fog is growing colder, the ravens are watching us, and the Sovereign is slowly, sadistically tightening his noose around Tarnstead. Can I keep my daughter safe, or has my desperate flight played right into the hands of a double agent I trusted with my life?
