The Cinnabar Paradox: Curing the Mad Heavens
By @john1208
Pei Xingjiao awakens in the suffocating, toxic pits of the Yancang Valley, banished to die alongside her disgraced noble clan. Surrounded by laborers dropping from a mysterious "curse-sickness," her modern eyes immediately recognize the truth: the horrific symptoms aren't supernatural, but rampant mercury and lead poisoning from boiling the Emperor’s sacred Vermilion Pills. Worse, the terrifying martial tyrants who consume these pills for "immortality" are slowly going violently, unpredictably insane. Armed with improvised charcoal filters, dietary regimens, and rudimentary chelation therapy, Xingjiao doesn't just survive the pits - she turns the toxins into a political weapon. By secretly diagnosing and curing the paranoid, tremor-ridden Imperial Viceroy, she secures a deadly, untouchable patron. Together, they begin a shadow-war against the Imperial Court, manipulating the supply of "pure" elixirs to trigger catastrophic mental breakdowns in their enemies mid-battle, while keeping their own forces sober and sane. But when the deteriorating Emperor demands she refine a new, infinitely more lethal batch of ascension pills under strict guard, can she engineer a rebellion before the madmen burn the entire valley to ash?
