Heart of the Hearthstone
By @john1208
Danica Volkov is a simple weaver with a temper as fiery as her red hair. Her life shatters when the Luminant Brethren, zealots of the Pure Flame, brand her a heretic and try to burn her at the stake. Rescued by the pragmatic Captain Kazimir Jaskol, she learns she is the 'Vatra,' a prophesied queen whose hearth-magic can restore warmth and life to a nation choking under the Brethren's frigid rule. Kazimir sees her as the key to his rebellion, a symbol to rally behind. For Danica, who just wants her quiet life back, he's an infuriatingly handsome complication. Together, they flee towards Perun's Veil, a legendary hidden community safe from their pursuers. As they navigate perilous landscapes and the Brethren's relentless hunters, a slow-burning trust begins to kindle between them. But the closer they get to the sanctuary, the more Danica realizes her fate was not written by gods, but by a ghost from her own past. Was this path laid for her salvation, or is she just a pawn in a game started centuries ago?
