Ashes of the Veiled Heron
By @john1208
My awakening came at the worst possible moment: kneeling in the freezing rain while my senior martial brother publicly dissolved our betrothal. In the original tale, I was Sheng Qilan, the tragic, hot-tempered younger sister who died defending the ruined Veiled Heron Pavilion. Not anymore. Rejecting a mysterious 'Fate System' that offers divine rewards to win him back - I quickly realized its heavenly gifts are actually soul-binding traps designed to steal my free will - I am dedicating my second life entirely to my dying sect. I need resources, spirit veins, and labor. Oddly, my sudden ruthless competence draws the very men I am trying to avoid. The regretful senior brother, an aloof Sword Sovereign, and even the bloodthirsty Demonic Sovereign Morou Qiong all flock to my peak. They offer their hearts; I hand them pickaxes. Morou Qiong finds my cold utility intoxicating, leaning in for an intense, breath-stealing confession only to be shoved into a spatial array to power my alchemy furnace. With a double-agent saboteur accidentally running my logistics and a harem of supreme cultivators trapped in manual labor, my sect is rising. But what happens when the heavens realize I am burning their romantic script as fuel?
