A Resonance of Ash and Root
By @john1208
Irineya possesses a rare and coveted magic: the ability to infuse her cooking with potent healing. For a decade, this gift was her curse, keeping her locked in a lightless cellar as a living miracle-vending machine for the ruthless Lumenguild. Now, having escaped with nothing but scars and a stubborn will to survive, she finds refuge in Umbraza, a sprawling underground city of outcasts. But freedom has a price. To secure her place, she must make a deal with Stellan, the city's disgraced protector. A hulking, blind warrior who perceives the world as a tapestry of auras, Stellan is haunted by the massacre that claimed his family and his sight. When Irineya cooks him a simple meal of root stew, the taste resurrects a forgotten childhood memory, soothing a pain no other magic could touch. Their pact for protection becomes a slow-burning alliance of healing and vengeance. But as they unravel the threads of their pasts, they find the two tragedies are entwined, leading back to a single, devastating secret. Can two broken people, bound by a shared hunger for justice, become strong enough to burn down their creators, or will the truth they uncover consume them both?
