The Scion's Gambit
By @john1208
Elara Vance, ward of the esteemed House Thorne, possessed a mind as sharp as any data-broker's algorithm, a prized asset destined to secure a pivotal alliance through marriage. Raised under the tutelage of House Thorne's patriarch, her future seemed meticulously charted: a strategic union with the heir of a rival corporation, cementing her adoptive family’s dominion in Neo-Veridia. Yet, beneath the polished chrome and shimmering spires of the city, a venomous current ran deep. Her foster matriarch, consumed by envy and ambition for her own progeny, orchestrated Elara's downfall, planning to discredit her and seize control of her invaluable strategic patents.
On the eve of her betrothal ceremony, Elara was drugged and meant for ruin in the sprawling lower sectors. Instead, disoriented, she stumbled into a restricted penthouse suite belonging to the enigmatic Kaelen Rex, CEO of the formidable Chronos Conglomerate - a man whose influence dwarfed even the most ancient Houses, a figure whispered about on the highest rungs of the Forbes-equivalent 'Sovereign Wealth Index.' Their night was a blur, a desperate act of survival that entangled her with a power beyond imagining. The next morning, amidst the wreckage of her intended future, Kaelen Rex made his chilling proposal: "Marry me, Elara Vance. And I will grant you the means to dismantle everything they built."
