The Velvet Snare
By @john1208
High society in the steam-powered city of Azmura treats vengeance like a spectator sport, so when the unimaginably wealthy Zorab returns with working legs and a predatory eye for Tasmira, the gossips grab their opera glasses. Tasmira, a shy but stubbornly independent weaver, is first publicly humiliated at the Grand Symposium when her life's work is sabotaged, only for Zorab to swoop in as her savior. He showers her with rare jewels, buys out her workshop, and courts her with aggressive, blinding opulence. It is a breathtaking romance - until the Winter Solstice. Blaming her for abandoning him when he was crushed in a quarry collapse years ago, Zorab springs his theatrical trap. He publicly strips her of everything and coldly kicks her out into the freezing rain. He expects a satisfying victory; instead, Tasmira vanishes completely, leaving him in a suffocating, echoing mansion. When Zorab accidentally uncovers that Tasmira's trusted childhood friend was the one who stole his medicine and framed her, his smug victory shatters into agonizing panic. How many factions will he have to burn down to find a woman who never wants to be found?
