What the Echoes Remember
By @john1208
Jiri Kalas was a cartographer, a man who believed in the tangible world. But one morning, he wakes up not in his bed, but in the Silent Ward - a forgotten district of Kymor whose very existence is an urban legend. He is accused of a heinous crime: using Echo-craft to shatter the mind of a city official, a crime of which he has no memory. His only way back is to serve as an assistant to the Ward's sole, permanent resident: Lyzavet Skala, the infamous 'Memory-Thief' of Kymor. Cold, ruthless, and universally despised, Lyzavet is believed to have stolen the memories of her own family for power. Yet, as Jiri navigates the eerie, shifting streets of the Silent Ward under her watch, he sees glimpses of a different woman - one who secretly protects the district's spectral inhabitants and fights a hidden war. Jiri realizes his own wrongful conviction and Lyzavet's dark reputation are not separate tragedies, but two threads of the same sinister tapestry. Can he unravel the truth before the city's true villain erases them both from history?
