Baiting the Northern Beast
By @john1208
It started as a perfectly ordinary Tuesday: burning toast for my little brother, Luken, and cursing my abysmal rent. But when a panicked noblewoman abandons her diplomatic envoy papers at my local cafe, I do what any self-respecting, utterly shameless investigative journalist would do. I steal her identity. My goal? Infiltrate the Skalvador Keep, home to a reclusive pack of giant northern wolves, and find the truth behind the gruesome animal attacks bleeding into our city. My problem? The terrifying, bloodthirsty Alpha I'm supposed to be 'courting' as a peace offering is none other than Harzog Vargen - the infuriatingly broad-shouldered mountain guide I've been locked in a bitter rivalry with all year. Harzog instantly recognizes me. But instead of exposing my fake identity, the ruthless bastard plays along just to watch me sweat. Surrounded by giant, jealous she-wolves who want to tear my frail human body to shreds, I have to fake being a demure bride while hunting for my scoop. But when I wander too far and Harzog goes utterly berserk to save me, I discover my touch instantly calms his lethal bloodlust. How long can I pretend this is just a story when the beast decides I'm his?
