Mercy in the Monster's Den
By @john1208
I should have been dead when the trench-stalker's claws tore through the mud. Instead, I am swinging a rusted blade, fighting for my life as 'Keth', the newest male recruit of the Blackcrag Vanguard. The world is dying, and joining this cutthroat, all-male suicide sect was the only way to get rations for my starving village. But my biggest threat isn't the monsters lurking in the dark. It’s Darev. He is our ruthless, blood-soaked squad leader, a hardened killer who despises my soft heart and tendency to share my meager rations. Yet, beneath his cruelty, he watches my every move. The claustrophobic barracks are destroying him. Trapped in bloody skirmishes and forced to share the geothermal healing hot springs, Darev is violently unraveling, terrified of his all-consuming desire for another man. When he finally breaks, cornering me in the steam and declaring he'll suffer eternal damnation just to keep me, the agony in his eyes shatters my resolve. I can't let him suffer anymore. But as I prepare to reveal my true gender, I uncover a terrifying truth: the gentle mentor who smuggled me into the Vanguard is the one orchestrating our slaughter. Will my mercy be our salvation, or our doom?
