The Unsung Machinist
By @john1208
Silas Vance toiled in the grime-caked underworks of Veridia Prime, an anonymous cog-turner in a city of gleaming brass and smog. His family’s fate, like countless others in the working class, rested on the annual Aetheric Concordance, a pivotal ceremony where adolescents received an experimental infusion of refined aether. Those few who harmonized with the energy would ascend to become Aether-Engineers, the revered architects of the Collective’s advanced automatons and chimerical guardians. The rest would return to the soot and the grind, their futures sealed. But Veridia Prime, jewel of the Aetherium Collective, hummed with more than just industry; rival city-states plotted, and rogue constructs lurked in the outlying blight-zones. When Silas, against all odds, manifests a connection unlike any recorded - a deep resonance that allows him to not only command existing mechanisms but to intuitively re-pattern and imbue them with unprecedented sentience - he finds himself thrust onto a path fraught with both unimaginable power and perilous responsibility. To rise above his station, he must master this nascent ability and become the foremost Architect the Collective has ever known.
