The Gilded Decoy
By @john1208
The opening scene is a masterpiece of manipulation: Taliyya overhears notorious playboy Qadir Al-Faris making a bet with his snobby rivals that he can turn anyone into the perfect society darling, and she strikes a deal on the spot. To Qadir, she is a cheerfully vapid airhead. To Taliyya, this fake relationship is the perfect cover to infiltrate the Zenith Terraces and steal the Sun-Weaver Relic. Told in close third-person from Taliyya’s hyper-observant, deeply sarcastic perspective, the story is a heist masquerading as a romance. But the plan derails when she discovers Qadir isn’t just a careless rich boy; he desperately needs the Relic to cure his sick younger sister. Worse, a crucial detail was missing from her intel: the Relic's containment field collapses in exactly twenty-one days. The ticking clock forces them closer, and Qadir's fake affection cracks during a steamy tango at a charity ball. When Taliyya's male best friend gives her a friendly hug, Qadir's terrifying, genuine jealousy reveals a man utterly obsessed. With a rival-turned-ally complicating matters and the deadline looming, can Taliyya secure the prize before Qadir realizes the bubbly idiot he loves is actually a lethal thief?
