The Lumina Cycle
By @john1208
Commander Elara Vance, architect of humanity's inaugural first contact, piloted *The Beacon* towards the shimmering anomaly designated Xylos-7. Decades of anticipation culminated in a singular, crystalline alien signal - not a greeting, but a chillingly familiar sequence: *The Beacon*'s launch, their journey, Elara’s own face gazing back from the main viewscreen. Then, blinding white, and the mission began anew. Each "reset" brought insidious alterations: a crew member vanished, ship logs rewritten, Elara's own memories fracturing. The initial scientific dread of a temporal anomaly morphed into a profound, existential horror. They weren't merely reliving contact; they were being *orchestrated*, their reality a meticulously crafted re-enactment. The alien intelligence wasn't just observing; it was a silent, relentless director, forcing them to confront humanity's true readiness for the cosmos. As the cycles wore on, the crew's desperation to escape waned, replaced by a haunting question: Was breaking the loop their real purpose, or was the loop itself the message, a terrifying cosmic crucible they were meant to endure until they finally understood its profound, agonizing truth?
