The Obsidian Consort's Reckoning
By @john1208
For seven years, Elara Vane served as the Obsidian Consort, the quiet architect behind Archon Kaelen’s ascendance to power in the shimmering city-state of Aethelgard. Her unparalleled intellect managed the city’s vast arcane infrastructure and navigated its treacherous political currents, even as her common birth kept her an eternal outsider among the blood-pure Houses. Her bond with Kaelen, though unofficial, was the true bedrock of his rule. Until the solar convergence ceremony, when Kaelen publicly presented Lady Lyra, a youthful scion of the revered House Solara, as his First Regent - effectively severing Elara's influence and declaring her obsolete.
The betrayal was a public knife, delivered with a smile. Kaelen believes Elara will retreat, broken. But beneath her serene composure, a meticulous wrath is stirring. Her quiet rebellion began the moment she meticulously cataloged the city's arcane financial ledgers, a final, damning report clipped to a formal Declaration of Severance. He expects anger; she offers a chilling resolve. Elara Vane, the woman who built his empire from the shadows, is now systematically dismantling her own invaluable contributions, preparing to vanish. And when Archon Kaelen realizes the true strength of the quiet mind he shattered, Aethelgard may already be spiraling into the darkness without her guiding hand.
