Summons
The Eldorian Council summons Necron. For the first time, he's allowed to participate in matters beyond training. Scouts stationed at the western frontier have vanished, ancient watchtowers have gone silent, and strange traces of cursed energy have been found where none should exist.
Sakun doesn't want Necron to go.
Not because he doubts his son's strength.
Because he's still his son.
The council overrules him.
Necron is assigned to a veteran squad.
Meanwhile...
King Varok summons Dalki.
Nekrath has received reports that an ancient relic has surfaced near the same frontier.
The king wants it recovered before any other kingdom gets there.
Dalki is ordered to lead the mission.
He doesn't want another military assignment.
But refusal isn't an option.
Now the fun begins.
Necron's group reaches an abandoned fortress.
They find fresh footprints.
The veteran sages conclude:
"We're too late."
They don't know who was there.
A few hours earlier...
Dalki's squad had already searched the same fortress.
He found the relic.
He also noticed traces of Sage chakra.
He tells his captain:
"Someone was here."
The captain asks:
"How long ago?"
Dalki kneels, touches the ground, activates the Sharingan.
"Less than an hour."
Later that night...
Necron walks outside the camp.
For no reason he can explain...
He feels someone watching him.
He turns.
Across a valley...
On a distant cliff...
A lone figure stands beneath the moonlight.
Before Necron can focus...
The figure disappears into the darkness.
Readers think:
"IT'S DALKI!"
Then...
Cut.
Now show Dalki.
He's on that same cliff.
One of his soldiers asks,
"Your Highness, what is it?"
Dalki keeps staring toward the valley.
"Nothing..."
A pause.
"...I thought I sensed someone."
Neither knows who the other is.
Neither sees the other's face.
But both leave with the same feeling:
Someone was there.
