Chapter 6: A Pact Sealed in Blood

Violent tremors ripped through the Whispering Plains, turning the solid earth into a rolling, chaotic sea of dust and stone.
Beneath the wagons, the ground groaned with a deep, bass vibration that rattled the teeth in Lin Wuyi’s skull.
Fissures split the dry clay, racing outward like jagged black lightning bolts across the plains.
Horses shrieked in terror, their hooves slipping on the shifting soil as they tried to flee the opening chasms.
Wagons tilted precariously, heavy wooden axles snapping with a sound like dry bones breaking in the dark.
Zhao Ge roared orders over the deafening din, his voice hoarse from the dust and the sheer panic of the moment.
His sword was drawn, flashing in the dim, bruised-purple light that now stained the sky.
Dust rose in choking clouds, smelling of copper, ozone, and the distinct, sickening scent of burning sulfur.
Cold air surged upward from the newly formed cracks, freezing the sweat on the mercenaries' faces.
Something ancient and hungry was waking up beneath them.
Space itself seemed to warp around the largest fissure, bending the light into unnatural, distorted angles.
Out of that dark abyss, a massive shape began to crawl, dragging itself up with agonizing slowness.
Claws made of shifting, non-Euclidean geometry scraped against the rocky edges of the pit.
Every touch of those claws turned the stone into gray, lifeless ash, erasing its color and texture entirely.
Dozens of needle-thin red eyes flickered across the creature's front, shifting and blinking in a chaotic, hypnotic pattern.
Lin Wuyi felt a violent pull in her chest, a physical sensation that made her gasp for breath.
Her mortal heart, carrying the dormant spark of her creation power, thumped frantically against her ribs.
This thing was not here by chance.
It had tracked her.
Her decision to live as a mortal had turned her into a target, a brilliant flare of divine energy in a dying universe.
Every step she took among these mortals was drawing the void-eaters closer to them, putting innocent lives in mortal peril.
Xiao Lu, the youngest of the mercenaries, lost his footing as the ledge beneath him crumbled.
He slid backward, his hands clawing desperately at the loose gravel as he slid toward the gaping maw of the beast.
Zhao Ge was pinned on the other side of the camp, struggling to pull two trapped men from beneath a fallen supply cart.
To save the boy, someone had to act immediately.
Lin Wuyi did not hesitate.
Stepping forward, she bypassed the fleeing mercenaries, her gaze locked on the monstrous entity rising from the earth.
Using mortal weapons against a primordial parasite was worse than useless—it would only feed the creature's hunger.
She had to use something far more dangerous, a forbidden technique from the first era of her creation.
Drawing upon her own blood was the only way to channel enough power without shattering her mortal shell completely.
Biting the palm of her hand, she tore the flesh open, letting the warm fluid pool in her hand.
Swiftly, she began to trace a complex geometric sigil in the air, her broken flesh leaving a trail of light.
But a mortal vessel was never designed to hold the weight of such cosmic patterns.
Crack.
Pain, sharp and blinding, exploded in her hand.
Three of her fingers snapped under the immense spiritual pressure, bending backward at sickening, broken angles.
Gritting her teeth, she refused to let the scream escape her throat, pushing through the agony with absolute focus.
She thrust her broken hand forward, releasing the completed sigil directly into the face of the beast.
A brilliant, blinding flash of silver-white light erupted from her palm, striking the creature's eyes.
It was not a fire or a physical force, but a concentrated burst of pure order, completely antithetical to the void.
Screaming in a frequency that shattered the nearby wagon lanterns, the beast thrashed in agony.
Its red eyes burned and popped, leaking a dark, greasy fluid as it retreated back into the depths of the pit.
Silently, the massive shape slid back down, the fissure groaning as the immediate threat subsided.
His lungs burning, Zhao Ge lunged through the settling dust, his face pale with terror and disbelief.
Suddenly, the ledge beneath Lin Wuyi’s boots gave way, sending her sliding toward the edge of the dark drop.
Gravity pulled her down, her broken hand useless to catch herself.
A heavy, calloused hand grabbed her wrist with bone-crushing force, jerking her backward onto the solid earth.
Zhao Ge pulled her close, his chest heaving as he stared down at her with a mixture of fury and shock.
He was breathing hard, his hands trembling as he held onto her.
"Are you completely out of your mind?" he yelled, his voice cracking with raw emotion.
"You have no shield, no sword, and you run straight toward a nightmare from the deep?"
Lin Wuyi looked at him, her vision swimming from the intense pain radiating from her hand.
Looking into his eyes, she saw the genuine terror he felt for her life—a mortal worrying for a god.
Guilt, cold and sharp, pierced her heart for the first time in her endless existence.
Never before had she felt the weight of her actions on such a personal, devastating scale.
These people were fighting for their lives, completely unaware that they were merely collateral damage in her game.
If she stayed with them, she would eventually bring about their complete destruction.
"Let me go," she whispered, her voice barely carrying over the wind.
Zhao Ge did not let go; instead, his grip tightened as he noticed the state of her hand.
His eyes fell to her broken fingers, which were swollen and twisted.
Then, he froze.
Lin Wuyi followed his gaze, her breath catching in her throat.
From her torn palm and shattered fingers, the fluid dripping onto the dark earth was not red.
It ran thick and luminescent, glowing with a brilliant, starlit silver that lit up the rocks around them.
Instead of blood, she was bleeding divinity.
Zhao Ge grabs her wrist, staring at her blood which runs not red, but a glowing, luminescent silver.
