Chapter 4 of 30

Heavy Iron and High-Octane Lead

696 words

Now, look, man... as much as I love my steel, I ain't stupid, sabes? You don't walk into a nest of fifty armed, cracked-out militia fools with just a big-ass knife unless you're trying to end up as swiss cheese. You gotta balance the art with some serious fucking muscle. I reached back into the bottom of that iron trunk, digging past the velvet and leather, right down to the heavy, oil-soaked rags where the real heavy hitters were sleeping. First thing I brought up into the light was my absolute prized possession for close-quarters slaughter: a modified, short-barrel 12-gauge tactical shotgun. Mag-fed, side-folding stock, with an extended breach choke on the muzzle that looked like a row of jagged teeth. I racked the action back—CH-CHICK! That sound, bro? Pure music. It’s the kind of sound that makes a man shit his pants before he even sees who’s holding it. I loaded up four 10-round box mags with heavy-duty 3-inch magnum door-breaching slugs and double-ought buck. Up close in a tight hallway or a crowded room? This thing doesn't just shoot people, man—it deletes 'em. Next came the handguns. I didn't want no plastic-toy, light-weight 9mms, bro. I needed real fucking stopping power. I pulled out a pair of matching, heavy-duty stainless steel .45 ACPs with custom skeletonized triggers and Rosewood grips I modified myself. Weighted frames to soak up the kick, night sights, and match-grade barrels. I slapped double-stacked 14-round mags into both of 'em, chambered a round in each, and flipped the safeties on. CLICK. CLICK. "There we go, baby," I whispered, sliding one into a chest holster right next to my new Rambo bowie, and the other right on my hip where my hand naturally rested. For the final touch, I dragged out my pocket rocket: a stubby, matte-black .357 Magnum revolver. Five shots of pure, unadulterated fire-breathing thunder. I slid that bad boy into my boot holster as a little surprise party for anyone who thought they had me disarmed. I loaded up my tactical vest, stuffing high-capacity mags and extra 12-gauge shells into every pouch until I was strapped to the teeth. But before I stepped a single foot down that mountain, I had one more detail to take care of—a little security insurance, homie. See, when I built this cabin three years ago, I didn't just lay down wood and drywall. I prepped the whole damn perimeter like a fortress. The entire dirt road leading up the ridge, the treeline, and the perimeter around the porch were already fully rigged with booby traps. Tripwires, pressurized plate charges, hidden spring-loaded spikes, and improvised pipe-bombs buried under the dry gravel. I kept 'em cold and disarmed for three years so I didn't blow up a lost deer or my own ass by mistake. But now? Now it was time to turn the whole hill live, dog. I walked over to the concealed steel breaker box behind my workbench, pulled open the side panel, and flipped the master arming switches. CLACK. CLACK. CLACK. Red indicator lights blinked to life, humming with deadly juice. I stepped out onto the porch, pulling high-tension aircraft cable tight and anchoring the primary tripwire across the main choke point near the gate. If Cruz lost his mind and sent twenty of his idiots up this hill while I was out hunting him, they weren't just gonna breach a house—they were gonna walk straight into a meat grinder. The second a boot hit that gravel, the whole ridge was gonna detonate and throw limbs into the treetops. I stood up, adjusting the weight on my shoulders. Between the shotguns, the heavy iron handguns, my fresh-forged steel, and a mountain loaded with explosives, I was carrying an entire war zone on my back. I slung the 12-gauge across my back, checked my blades, and stepped over the porch. Órale... I had the traps set for anyone stupid enough to come up, and enough heavy lead to clear a path through hell down below. Cruz and his little playground were about to find out what happens when you force a real predator out of retirement. Time to go make some noise.
