Chapter 4 of 11

The Hunger of the Shadow

991 words

The rooftop air suddenly felt thick, stripped of oxygen. Bomi’s hands pressed flat against Kage’s chest, feeling the heavy, rapid thudding of a heart that technically belonged to her best friend, but currently beat with the rhythm of a predator. “T-Tani… no, who are you?” Bomi gasped out, her head spinning. The proximity was overwhelming. The sheer contrast between the gentle boy who had just dropped his lunchbox and this dominant, sex-driven man pinning her to the bench was tearing her logic to shreds. Kage let out a low, gravelly laugh against her neck, the vibration sending a sharp, intoxicating shiver straight down her spine. His fingers dug firmly into her waist, anchoring her to him. “I told you. I’m the one who actually wants you,” Kage whispered, his voice dripping with an dark, intoxicating heat. “Call me Kage. That’s who I am. The one who has had to watch that pure, clueless idiot play innocent while you sat right next to him, looking like *this*.” His gaze dropped deliberately, locking onto her chest. The thin fabric of her summer school blouse strained against the full, supple curve of her breasts, rising and falling in frantic, shallow breaths. Kage’s eyes darkened, completely consumed by an obsessive, primal urge that had been simmering in a dark void for seventeen years. To Kage, this wasn’t just a sudden burst of lust. He possessed every single one of Tani’s memories. He remembered being a child, trapped in the dark, watching Bomi hold Tani’s hand. He remembered the comforting warmth of her fingers tracing through Tani’s hair. Because he had been denied a physical form, his entire existence had wrapped itself around a singular, twisted obsession: Bomi. And now that he had control, his hunger was limitless. --- “Kage…” Bomi breathed the name, the foreign syllables tasting strange and heavy on her tongue. “Look at me, Bomi,” Kage commanded softly, his hand sliding up from her waist, his long fingers trailing up her ribcage with an agonizingly slow, possessive friction. She couldn’t help it. She looked up, completely caught in his gaze. There was something intensely magnetic about him—a raw, dangerous masculinity that Tani entirely lacked. In Bomi’s frantic mind, the succubus theory solidified even more. *He’s a demon. He has to be. He’s trying to tempt me.* But even as her mind screamed a warning, her body was betraying her, flushing hot with a desire she had never felt before. Kage’s hand finally reached its destination, his palm cupping the heavy, soft weight of her breast. He squeezed, a low, ragged groan tearing from his throat as he felt the supple fullness of her shape. “Ah…!” Bomi arched her back slightly, her eyes widening at the bold, unvarnished touch. The sensation of his firm palm molding against her skin through the fabric was electric. “You’re so perfect,” Kage muttered against her ear, his teeth grazing the soft skin of her earlobe, making her whimper. “He doesn’t deserve this body if he’s going to waste it. Let me have you, Bomi. Let me show you what it feels like to be taken completely.” His other hand moved to her thigh, sliding her uniform skirt upward, his touch deliberate and heavy. The boundaries of their lifelong friendship were being violently redrawn in the span of seconds. Bomi felt a terrifying thrill pooling deep in her stomach—she wanted to push him away, yet her hands gripped the fabric of his shirt tighter, pulling him closer. But the physical world was a fragile thing for a divided soul. --- From the other side of the rooftop, the heavy metal door creaked open again. The sound of distant laughter from returning students echoed across the concrete. The sudden intrusion slammed into Kage’s hyper-focused senses like cold water. He stiffened, a dark, furious scowl instantly twisting his handsome features. “Tsk… not now,” Kage growled, his grip tightening on Bomi in sheer frustration. He didn’t want to let go. He wanted to drag her into the shadows, to consume her entirely until she forgot Tani’s name. But the sudden surge of anxiety from Tani’s dormant subconscious—the innate fear of being caught, of breaking school rules—rushed to the surface like a tidal wave. Tani’s mind fought back, desperate to regain control of a body that felt like it was burning up. Kage stumbled backward, releasing Bomi so abruptly she almost fell off the bench. He gripped the chain-link fence of the rooftop, his knuckles turning white as his body violently trembled. “Bomi… run…” Kage managed to choke out, his voice cracking, fracturing under the strain of two consciousnesses tearing at the same throat. “Before I… don’t let him… see…” With a final, gasping breath, the violent tension left his shoulders. His body slouched, his head dropping forward. --- Bomi sat frozen on the bench, quickly smoothing down her skirt and adjusting her rumpled blouse, her heart pounding a frantic rhythm against her ribs. When Tani lifted his head a moment later, the dark, burning intensity in his eyes was completely gone. Instead, they were wide, watery, and filled with a deep, vulnerable confusion. He looked around the rooftop, then down at his hands, which were shaking. “Bomi-ah…?” Tani’s voice was small, soft, and entirely sweet. He looked at her disheveled state, a deep sense of worry clouding his innocent face. “Did… did I fall asleep again? My head feels so heavy. Did those girls come back? Why do you look so scared?” He took a step toward her, his posture returning to its usual shy, protective slouch. He reached out to gently touch her shoulder, entirely unaware that the phantom heat of his own hands was what had just pushed her to the brink of surrender. Bomi looked at his pure, genuine eyes, her mind completely shattered between the sweet boy she had loved as a best friend, and the dangerous, sex-driven shadow named Kage who was waiting to take her body.
