The Tycoon's Wrath

1.4k words

Tavros Vengat dropped from the belly of a stealth airship, his features set in lethal focus as he landed directly between Garek and Pello. He moved with the savage grace of a predator, his hands already reaching for the first enforcer. The man, clad in reinforced tactical gear, barely registered the billionaire’s arrival before Tavros’s open palm struck his ear with a percussive force that vibrated through the metal plating of the hallway. The enforcer’s head snapped back, his eyes rolling, and he collapsed in a heap, his rifle clattering. Tavros didn’t pause. He spun, his bespoke charcoal suit rippling as he intercepted another mercenary whose stun baton was already arcing with blue energy. Tavros’s elbow connected with the man’s jaw with a sickening crack, disarming him instantly. The baton flew, sparking, and the mercenary crumpled, his body twitching. Garek Moraine recoiled, his predatory grin dissolving into a snarl. “You absolute lunatic! You brought a chopper *inside* the structure?” “You brought a private army to my son’s hospital room,” Tavros retorted, his voice a low growl of pure, unadulterated fury. He dodged a wild swing from a third enforcer, twisting his body with an agility that belied his powerful build. His fist, wrapped around a heavy, polished brass pen he’d kept in his inner jacket pocket, arced like a piston. It struck the man’s temple with chilling precision. The enforcer’s eyes glazed over, and he slid down the wall, leaving a faint streak of grime on the pristine surface. Tavros’s bespoke wool, smudged with plaster and rotor oil, showed how heedlessly he had thrown himself into the breach. Briska watched, the fire axe slack in her hands beside his lethal precision. He moved with a terrifying efficiency, each strike designed to incapacitate, not merely injure. His movements were swift, brutal, born of a deep-seated rage that dwarfed even her own protective instincts. She had only seen this man as a detached titan of industry, a financial juggernaut. This raw, paternal ferocity was something entirely new, something that made her heart ache with a strange mixture of terror and awe. Two more enforcers rushed him simultaneously, their movements more coordinated. Tavros met them head-on, a blur of motion. One man’s knee buckled under a swift kick, sending him sprawling. As the second tried to grapple him, Tavros used the man’s momentum, flipping him over his shoulder with a grunt, sending him crashing into the first. The impact was audible, a dull thud that echoed in the shattered space. In the sudden lull, Pello looked up at Tavros, his bright eyes wide but completely devoid of fear. “Tavros, when the bad man is in jail, can we get raspberry ripple ice cream? Nyssa promised.” Garek, who had been scrambling backward toward the pulse trigger, froze. His face contorted in disbelief, then rage. “Ice cream? You little…! After all this, you’re thinking about *ice cream*? Do you have any idea what you’ve done, what this boy has cost me?” His voice was a guttural scream of utter frustration. Tavros, wiping a bead of sweat from his brow, his dark hair falling across his forehead, didn’t even glance at Garek. He simply nodded to Pello. “Raspberry ripple. Absolutely. And a double scoop.” Garek let out a strangled cry of fury. “You think this is over? You think you can stop me?” He fumbled for the activation button on the sleek, black EMP device he clutched in his hand. “I’ll scramble his mind, burn out his memory, ruin everything you’re trying to protect!” Briska drew Pello behind her skirts, bracing against the coming shock. But as Garek’s thumb depressed the button, nothing happened. A flicker of confusion crossed his face, quickly replaced by dawning horror as the device in his hands began to hum with an unsettling energy. A sharp crackle filled the corridor, and a brilliant blue arc of voltage erupted from the casing, snapping across Garek’s knuckles. His body seized instantly, his muscles locking, his eyes wide and bulging. “Nyssa!” Briska gasped, the knot in her ribs loosening. Nyssa, still clutching her tablet, offered a small, triumphant smile. “Reverse-hacked the trigger. Now it’s just an aggressive shock collar.” Garek twitched violently, a choked scream escaping his lips as the current coursed through him. The device hummed, then discharged, throwing him backward against the wall. He slumped to the ground, his body smoking faintly, eyes unfocused but still conscious, albeit barely. The brutal discharge had rendered him limp. Tavros, now covered in dust and with a tear in his suit jacket’s shoulder, stepped over the unconscious enforcers. He knelt beside the groaning Garek, his expression utterly devoid of mercy. He pressed his heavy dress shoe onto Garek’s chest, pinning him. The magnate coughed, a pained gasp escaping him. “You will confess, Garek,” Tavros stated, his voice calm, yet radiating an intensity that made the air itself feel cold. “Every crime. Every market manipulation. Every plot to kidnap my son. Every attempt on my life and Kaelia’s.” Garek tried to shake his head, a weak defiance in his eyes. “Never. You’ll never prove it. My word against yours…” Pello, still holding his pawn-shop tablet, chimed in, “I already started the livestream. To the SEC. And the Port Canto Journal of Commerce. And the Vengat Corporation board members.” He tapped a final icon. “And I sent it to the global markets feed. Just so everyone knows.” Garek’s eyes, already wide with shock, now dilated in pure terror. He thrashed weakly beneath Tavros’s foot. “You… you little demon! You can’t… no!” Tavros leaned closer, his voice dropping to a dangerous level. “Oh, he can. And he did. Now, confess. Or I will ensure you spend the rest of your miserable life in a cell, watching your entire empire crumble, brick by agonizing brick, bought up by charity trusts that Pello controls.” The humiliation, the absolute defeat, was too much for Garek. His will broke. With a broken sob, he began to recount his schemes, his voice raspy and defeated. “The bounty… it was a setup… to get the algorithms… I framed the Phantom Trader… to destabilize the market… tried to hurt Kaelia… to silence her…” His confession, though garbled by pain and shame, was chillingly clear. Briska watched, her chest tight. The man she had known as cold, calculating, and self-serving was gone. In his place was a protector, a force of nature. Tavros Vengat, the billionaire heir, had transformed into something truly extraordinary. He looked up from Garek, his eyes finding Briska’s. The fury had not entirely dissipated, but it was now tempered with a profound tenderness that made her breath catch. He pushed off Garek’s chest, leaving the broken magnate to his shame. He walked over to Briska, unbuttoning his torn cuffs. He reached out, not for her hand, but cupped her face, his thumb gently caressing her cheekbone. The lingering fear, the cold analysis she usually applied to every human interaction, evaporated under his touch. “Briska,” he breathed, his voice rough with emotion. “My Briska. You were magnificent.” Before she could form a reply, he pulled her into a fierce, passionate kiss. It was deep, desperate, marked by copper and ash. Her lips parted, and she responded with an intensity she hadn’t known she possessed, her hands finding purchase on his broad shoulders, pulling him closer. The taste of him, the scent of ozone and his expensive cologne, filled her senses, drowning out the wreckage around them. When he finally broke the kiss, breathless, his forehead rested against hers. His gaze was unwavering, filled with a promise that went beyond words. “I love you, Briska Yulon. I love you and Pello and Nyssa. You are my world. My miracle.” Briska’s heart swelled, the last shards of her cynical worldview shattering around her. She parted her lips to answer, to tell him he was her shelter too, when the reinforced blast doors at the end of the hallway suddenly hissed open with a loud pneumatic whoosh. A dozen federal agents, clad in tactical vests emblazoned with the Port Canto Federal Exchange Commission crest, burst through, their weapons raised. “Freeze!” one of them bellowed, his voice echoing through the silent, shattered corridor. “Federal agents! We’re here for the Phantom Trader! You’re all under arrest!”
