Chapter 1: The Hotel That Everyone Forgot
530 words
There are some places that disappear from the world, but they never truly disappear from people’s memories. They remain hidden behind old stories, forgotten records, and warnings that are passed from one person to another. People may stop visiting them, maps may remove their locations, and years may pass without anyone speaking about them, but the fear connected to those places always remains. Deep inside a forest where the roads became narrow and unfamiliar stood one such place — a building that had once been filled with hundreds of visitors but was now nothing more than an abandoned reminder of something nobody wanted to remember.
That place was called Blackthorn Hotel.
Many years ago, Blackthorn Hotel was considered one of the most beautiful hotels in the country. It was a massive building with two hundred rooms, elegant hallways decorated with expensive paintings, large dining areas where guests gathered every evening, and beautiful views of the forest surrounding it. People travelled from far away just to experience the luxury of staying there. Families came to spend holidays, couples came looking for peaceful escapes, and important guests held meetings inside its grand rooms. At that time, nobody imagined the hotel would one day become one of the most feared places in the region.
The change began slowly.
At first, it was only small incidents that people ignored. A guest claimed they heard footsteps outside their room late at night even though nobody was there. A cleaner reported hearing someone whispering her name from an empty hallway. Another worker said they saw a person standing at the end of the corridor, but when they walked closer, the figure had disappeared. Everyone tried to find normal explanations because nobody wanted to believe that something impossible was happening inside a place that had once been full of happiness.
But then people started disappearing.
The first missing person was considered an accident. The second created concern. By the time the third person vanished, rumours had already started spreading throughout the town. People began avoiding Blackthorn Hotel, but the biggest mystery came from a room that nobody could explain.
Room 13.
According to the old stories, a young girl named Elena Voss entered Room 13 one night and never came out. The strange thing was that the room was found locked from the inside, yet nobody could discover what happened to her. There were no clear signs of what had taken place. No explanation. No answer. Just an empty room and a mystery that remained unsolved.
When investigators studied the hotel records, they discovered something even stranger. The original plans of Blackthorn Hotel showed only twelve rooms on that floor. There was no Room 13. No hallway leading to it. No record of it ever being built.
It was a room that should not have existed.
After Elena’s disappearance, Blackthorn Hotel was abandoned. The owners refused to discuss what happened there, and eventually the building was closed completely. A warning was placed outside, telling people not to enter the property.
For years, the hotel remained untouched.
But abandoned places have a way of attracting curious people.
And sometimes, curiosity opens doors that were meant to stay closed.
