Chapter 50 of 50
Chapter 50
1.3k words
Chen Mo flipped through the textbook in front of him.
From the major subjects down to the subheadings in each unit's chapters, everything was scrawled in red pen. Occasionally, there would be one or two specially marked words, the handwriting wild and unrestrained, somewhat resembling its owner.
Chen Mo closed the book, looked over, and nodded: "Yes."
"explain."
Chen Mo twirled the pen in his hand, and as it fell to the table with a clatter, he asked, "What was the worst student you've ever taught like?"
The banquet master raised his eyebrows.
Chen Mo was sincere, "I'm afraid the difference will be too great for you, and you won't be able to accept it."
"To give an example."
"Hmm... if we compare you to my current level, it would be something like: Sorry, your configuration is too low to enable this feature."
Laughter erupted one after another in the dormitory.
The other people who overheard their conversation all night.
"Don't give up before it even starts, Chen Mo."
"Yes, yes, yes, how many people wish to have a top student as their partner, and stay together until old age."
"When Heaven is about to place a great responsibility on a person, it will first turn off their phone and cut off their data, so that they can say goodbye to being a poor student and become a top student!"
Chen Mo felt like he was standing on a podium for a traditional Chinese folk art performance.
Amidst the laughter and chatter, a single, inappropriate snort rang out, coming from another top student, Xue Ping, who ranked second in the grade.
His eyes behind his glasses seemed to gleam with a cold light. He made a standard gesture of pushing up his glasses. "Wasting time on someone like this? Do you think you can still get first place in the physics competition training camp in early November?"
It took Chen Mo a moment to process this standard academic greeting before he realized it was directed at Xi Siyan.
I thought physical attacks would occur again.
For example, Xi Siyan might reply: "Just you?"
As a result, Chen Mo only heard a casual voice coming from above his head: "Whether you waste time or not, it's all time. You can have first place?"
Feeling deeply insulted, Xue Ping glared angrily.
Pointing at Chen Mo: "Just for him?!"
"Dude." Chen Mo turned his chair around, calmly saying, "It's not that bad. You're making me sound like some kind of wicked demon. I'm so embarrassed."
Chapter 21
On the first night of 413, Xue Ping, who was usually silent for ages, fell asleep in an atmosphere that almost drove him crazy.
In the dead of night, Chen Mo was actually doing homework.
It was just like the college entrance exam hall that year, with the sound of pens scratching on the exam papers all around.
He stared at the last math problem he couldn't solve no matter what he did, his heart pounding so hard he could hardly breathe, while the ticking of the clock on the wall above the podium grew clearer and clearer.
Tick-tock, tick-tock, he guessed there couldn't be a more terrifying sound in the world.
The proctor started urging students to stop writing and hand in their exam papers.
Chen Mo thought to himself, "It's over."
I haven't solved the last problem yet, I need to hurry up and finish it.
I opened the exam paper and took a look.
It was completely blank. He didn't just skip the last question; he didn't write any of them.
"Bang!"
"Damn!" Chen Mo immediately reached up and pressed his head, as if the crisp sound of his head hitting the metal headboard still lingered in his ears. He opened his eyes and looked into the dark sky, only then realizing that he was covered in cold sweat.
"Had a nightmare?" came the question from the next bed.
The voice was clear and close, as if it were right next to my ear.
The two beds were placed next to each other, and out of respect, their respective orientations resulted in their heads being separated by only two iron frames.
Chen Mo breathed a sigh of relief, relaxed his whole body and slumped onto the bed. He opened his eyes and stared blankly at the ceiling, saying, "I always thought that the most terrifying nightmares in the world were nothing more than two kinds: being born at the wrong time and not dying. Who the hell knew that there was such an option as handing in the college entrance exam paper and finding that it was completely blank? That's outrageous, isn't it? It almost gave me a heart attack."
There was a pause next to him, followed by a laugh. "I thought that even if you didn't write anything in your dream, you could still slap the blank paper in the proctor's face with a straight face."
"I don't know," Chen Mo said weakly. "I didn't take any pictures."
After a few seconds, I recovered.
Chen Mo took out his phone and checked the time; it showed 2 a.m.
The moon should be quite bright tonight; even with the curtains drawn, the dormitory room will still let in a faint moonlight.
Chen Mo leaned back and asked, "Did I wake you up? Or were you not asleep at all?"
"I'm not asleep." The person next door turned over.
Chen Mo: "Are you not used to the new place?"
As soon as Chen Mo asked the question, he thought to himself, "That makes sense. The Xi family probably doesn't even have the concept of boarding school." Thinking about it this way, whether it was that small cot in the hospital last time or boarding school, it was all related to him to some extent.
Just as Chen Mo had a change of heart, Xi Siyan said, "I just finished dealing with the matter and haven't fallen asleep yet."
Chen Mo remembered that before he fell asleep, Xi Siyan was sitting on the bed with a laptop on his lap, typing something.
I asked instinctively, "Starting work so early, is that a tradition in your Xi family?"
"What are you thinking about?" Xi Siyan said. "Old Xiang asked me to draft a letter of intent for a school-enterprise cooperation project. I need to give it to him by tomorrow morning."
Chen Mo fell silent.
The nightmare left him somewhat disoriented, and he subconsciously mistook the adult Xi Siyan for the same person he was now, who was still in high school.
High school life isn't actually that complicated.
Chen Mo turned to his side to sleep, and just as he closed his eyes, something warm and cool pressed against his face.
Xi Siyan's voice was low in the darkness, slower and deeper than usual, as he said, "Have some water and go to sleep, new one."
Chen Mo grabbed the water bottle from his face, and then saw a shadow of a hand retracting from above.
This time, the night fell completely silent.
At six o'clock in the morning, the school's wake-up bell rang on time.
Chen Mo was the last one to get up.
When I got out of bed, everyone in the dorm was either brushing their teeth or had already washed their faces.
He shoved his feet into his slippers, dazedly ran a couple of fingers through his hair, and heard Qi Lin across from him ask, "Did you bump into the bed last night?"
"Did you hear that?" Chen Mo asked, looking over.
