The Flawed Masterpiece

Nishari’s gloved fingers, pale and delicate against the raw metal of the activation rune, paused for a calculated second. Her smile remained fixed, serene, utterly oblivious to the jagged purple discharge already lashing out from the loom’s core. Mirrored lenses hovered on bronze tracks, beaming her profile to screens throughout the provinces.
“Nishari, no! Stop!” Tashirin’s voice, raw and desperate, tore through the vast arena. The projection horn above the proscenium caught her pitch, throwing it across forty thousand tiered seats and silencing the brass section mid-note.
Lord Vandat, resplendent in his emerald brocade, strode to the Omni-Glass podium at the edge of the platform, a pre-written speech already forming on the scrying-slate. His eyes, cold and dismissive, found Tashirin. A sneer twisted his mouth. “Pay no mind, esteemed viewers,” he boomed, his voice resonating with false charm across the stadium. “It appears a… disgruntled former servant has wandered onto the stage. A most regrettable disturbance from a, shall we say, *unstable* individual.” He aimed a pointed, condescending look at Tashirin. “Security! Remove this lunatic immediately! See that she never darkens these halls again, by whatever means necessary.”
Before the heavily armored Praetors could even take a step, a shadow detached itself from the backstage gloom. Prince Khavar emerged, his obsidian armor stark against the brilliant stage lights. His long, curved blade, the ‘Void-Drinker’, was still drawn, a crimson sheen coating its edge. He moved with a predator’s silent grace, each step deliberate, his dark gaze sweeping over the Praetors, then settling on Lord Vandat. The arena, moments ago a cacophony of anticipation, fell into an absolute, deathly silence. The forty thousand voices vanished. The orchestral music died. The only sound was the faint hum of the immense aether-loom and the distant, almost imperceptible *drip* of something from Khavar’s blade onto the polished floor. The Emperor’s ruthless uncle, the architect of a thousand battles, stood before them, his face impassive, his sword a stark declaration.
Lord Vandat took an uneven step backward, his boots sliding against the glossed parquet. Nishari remained fixed over the brass terminal, gaze flicking between Tashirin, Khavar's crimson-tipped steel, and the floating brass camera horns.
Nishari spat a low hiss beneath the brass hum, drove her palms straight down onto the twin contacts, and twisted her thumbs inward to trip the master relay. A blinding flash erupted from the loom’s core, followed by a guttural, grinding roar that shook the entire arena to its foundations.
“Fool!” Tashirin shrieked, but it was too late. The purple discharge intensified, coiling around the colossal iron structure like venomous serpents. A high-pitched, wailing screech tore from the loom’s throat, a sound of raw metal twisting under unimaginable strain. The atmosphere over the platform condensed, refracting stage lights through an amber distortion bubble that drove Lord Vandat and three nearby stagehands hard against the floorboards. Lord Vandat gasped, clutching his chest, his face contorting in agony as the pressure squeezed the air from his lungs. Nishari dropped beside the ruined control plinth, fingers clawing at the deck as primary armature teeth sheared apart beneath her feet.
“The… the structural integrity!” a frantic technician cried out from the shielded control booth, his voice cracking with panic. “Gravimetric coils destabilizing! Aetheric containment field… failing!”
Khavar, gripping Tashirin's arm, pulled her close, shielding her with his body as the raw aether shrieked around them. Even Goro, usually unflappable, let out a distressed croak from Tashirin’s shoulder, his six legs scrabbling against her tunic. The loom, no longer humming, began to scream. A blinding white light erupted from its core, intensifying with horrific speed, expanding, consuming the entire stage in an inferno of pure, uncontrolled energy, seconds away from vaporizing the arena.
