Chapter 9 of 10
The Foreclosure

Ignac’s grip was absolute, his fingers locked around Milos’s blade. The crimson line on his palm thickened, but he felt no pain, only the cold pulse of leverage. Milos’s face, once contorted in victorious malice, now drained to the color of ash. His stare darted from the impaled steel to Ignac’s predatory smile, then to the unyielding force pinning his arm.
“Fool,” Ignac repeated, his tone gaining a flat resonance that set the soot-coated rafters humming. “You forget. I am the collector.” He twisted his wrist, and the blade, still firmly held, tore free from Milos’s numb fingers with a screech of tortured metal. It clattered to the floor, a mundane piece of iron now, stripped of its arcane power, its blood-forged glow extinguished.

A low, sonorous chime echoed through the vast chamber, not from any physical source, but from within the very fabric of existence. It was the same chillingly polite, perfectly modulated voice Ignac knew, but now amplified, given an otherworldly authority that commanded attention. “Greetings, valued Account Holder Ignac Moravec. Your request for Asset Repossession and Karmic Foreclosure has been received and approved.”
Zora Kolar, who had been watching with dawning horror, stumbled back. Her hands clawed at her chest, where a faint, phosphor luminescence had begun to pulse, mirroring the sudden, harsh surge of current in the room. Dragan Volkov, Vasko Jovan, and Stojan Rilak stood frozen against the soot-streaked pillars, their mouths slackening in sick comprehension. The air crackled, heavy with the scent of ozone and the metallic tang of something far older than iron.
“As per Contractual Clause 7, Paragraph 19, Subsection Beta,” the voice continued, unwavering, “all borrowed assets, including but not limited to, Karmic Resonance, Skill Proficiencies, and Acquired Memories of Triumph, are hereby declared forfeit.”
From the high, shadowed arches of the vault, a cataract of pale light poured down, coalescing into six spectral chains that descended with clockwork speed. Five of them snaked towards the betrayers, their luminous links wrapping around their limbs, binding them to the cold, massive anvils where they had once forged their borrowed glories. The sixth chain, thicker and more complex, extended towards Ignac, but did not bind him. Instead, it hummed like a drawn bowstring, waiting.
“No! What is this?” Milos shrieked, thrashing against the ghostly links. The golden sheen of his aristocratic sigil, emblazoned on his ceremonial garb, flickered and died. His meticulously arranged hair seemed to lose its luster, flattening, dulling.
Zora cried out, a guttural sound of pure agony. The faint, pearlescent sheen that had always framed her, the hallmark of her 'Saintess' candidacy, flared fiercely, then imploded. It was a visible ripping, a tearing away of something intrinsic. Her eyes, once brimming with an almost blinding spiritual light, clouded over, becoming vacant, lost. Her memories, her divine connection, her very sense of being, were being dragged out through her marrow.

An invisible force slammed into Zora, driving her to her knees. Her holy vestments, so recently pristine, seemed to fray and darken, as if absorbing her stolen grace. A thin, reeking vapor rose from her skin, the remnants of her spiritual power being forcibly stripped away. She collapsed against the iron block, a weeping, powerless husk, her thoughts broken into scattered, barren shards.
Milos was next. His metallurgical skill, the very essence of his Vran lineage, was suddenly pulled from him. The muscles in his forearms, once taut with the practiced strength of a smith, slackened. Nausea seized his throat as his mind emptied of complex formulas, alloy ratios, and the instinct for quenching blood-iron. He stared at his hands, once capable of shaping ultimate weapons, now feeling clumsy, alien.

Milos roared in a primal mixture of fear and rage, but his voice was thin, reedy, utterly devoid of authority. He saw Ignac standing there, utterly unbound, his face impassive, and something in his eyes shattered. “You… you did this! You gave us… It was all you!” The realization, stripped bare of all pride and delusion, was a fresh torment.
Dragan, Vasko, and Stojan screamed in unison as the ethereal chains tightened, drawing them closer to the anvils. Their own borrowed skills, their 'discoveries' of stolen blueprints, their fabricated bravado, were brutally repossessed. The memories of their audacious heist, of their effortless rise to power, warped and twisted into agonizing blanks. They were left with only the cold, hard truth of their inadequacy, a truth that burned far worse than any flame.
[Asset Transfers Complete. Karmic Reciprocity Established. Total Repossessed Assets: Valued at 1,320,000 Interest Points.]
[Account Holder Ignac Moravec: New Balance: 1,320,000 Interest Points. Congrat—]
The System’s polite voice was abruptly cut off. The sixth chain linked to Ignac snapped taut, pumping an icy torrent of repossessed power into his chest. It wasn't painful, but a cold, invigorating flood, Zora’s holy grace mingling with Milos’s metallurgical prowess, Dragan’s strategic cunning, Vasko’s deceptive charm, and Stojan’s engineered luck. They were not merely shifted; they rooted into his flesh, becoming permanent ledgers in his blood.
The sheer weight of five simultaneous liquidations proved too great for the subterranean masonry. A deep, shuddering tremor shook the workshop, groaning upward from the flagstones. The downward shockwave hammered straight through bedrock. Massive fissures, thick as a man’s arm, spiderwebbed across the reinforced slag-steel floor. The stone groaned, then shrieked, unable to contain the abrupt, cataclysmic shift.
The central floor, directly beneath the master anvil, buckled and tore. A cloud of ancient dust, thick and suffocating, erupted into the chamber. Through the swirling motes, a vast, gaping maw appeared, revealing not bedrock, but a cavernous, unseen abyss. From the depths, a single, glowing, ruby-red eye blinked open, vast as a carriage wheel, set into a colossal, segmented metallic head that slowly, ponderously, began to rise.
