Chapter 13: Proclamation's Ending

The echoes of both declarations still hung heavy in the air, travelling over mountains, across seas, and through every valley of Mechrion. No one could claim they didn’t know anymore. No one could pretend this was just trouble far away at the borders. The Kingdoms World War had officially begun.
In the Monarch Empire’s capital, King Donald Zimmerman stood upon his great balcony, banners unfurled behind him, as crowds cheered and armies marched into formation. Messengers rode out to every corner: alliances to be struck, supplies stockpiled, borders manned. Zane Marcko, their greatest swordsman, knelt to receive his order: head toward the Fallen Lands crossing, stand guard there, and find every path and ally he could to keep the Abyss from pushing further in.
Within Necrokeep, Queen Hestia paced her highest walls, staring hard toward the smoke rising in the distance. She thought back to Alice standing right there beside her just days before. The girl she grew up hating was now Empress of the very force threatening to burn everything down. She called her captains close: no one leaves, no one enters without being seen, and every defence that had ever made this fortress unbreakable was to be made twice as strong.
Leo the singing swordsman turned his horse around mid-journey, changed his song from tales of old glory to calls for brave hearts to stand together, and headed straight back toward Hestia’s walls where he knew he was needed most. Kevon, deep in his workshop far south, stopped what he was building, looked up at the signal fires burning on the horizon… and started reforging his strongest tools into weapons meant for war.
Out in the Barren Plains, MJ gripped his palms tight until that familiar blue glow peeked out between his fingers. They had set out looking for Jamal. Now they understood: Jamal hadn’t just gotten lost—he had been pulled right into the middle of this great storm.
“We keep going,” Liam said firmly, slinging his pack over his shoulder and tightening the strap on his sword. “We find Jamal. And we help whoever we have to, along the way.”
Allen nodded, already checking his supplies and looking toward the road ahead. “Necrokeep is the closest strong place we can reach from here. We head there first. Then we see where this path leads us.”
Far above it all, from the highest peak of the Abyssal Spire, the Dark Knight looked out over every land that would soon be his, with Alice right beside him. He wrapped one arm firmly around her waist, and she leaned easily against his side.
“They all choose to fight,” he said, not angry, not surprised—just satisfied. “Perfect. The harder they resist… the more glorious our victory will be.”
Alice smiled, her eyes sharp and bright. “And when they fall… everything is ours.”
The sun rose the next morning pale and hazy, casting light over a realm divided, over armies gathering, over friends searching, and over two rulers ready to burn it all down to build their new world from the ashes.
