Eviction Notice

Rivo smashed his bloodied knuckle into the flashing 'ABORT URBAN RENEWAL PROTOCOL' square. The holographic display, which moments before had shown the devastating descent of the bomber fleet, shimmered. The red markers, hundreds of them, stalled mid-air above the Sump-Ward.
[Command Override Initiated: VET-PRIME-CEN-001. Urban Renewal Protocol: REVOKED.]
[Payload Disarm Sequence: ACTIVATED.]
[Legal Authority: TRANSFER COMPLETE. All Prior Vettor Conglomerate Claims on Sump-Ward Assets: NULL AND VOID.]
Outside the reinforced glass, the low concussions died out. A profound, almost unnatural silence fell over the city, replacing the cacophony of alarms and distant explosions. The heir stood motionless, pallor spreading across his aristocratic face. He stared at the blank authority slate, then at Rivo, slack-lipped.
"What have you done?" the heir whispered, gold-threaded cuffs trembling over his knuckles. "Generations of family capital, wiped clean!"
"No," Rivo rasped, a mirthless grin splitting his cracked lips. "I just cleared the table." His gaze swept across the server room, taking in the humming conduits, the data racks, the very floor beneath his feet. The registry network surged through his neural tap, spreading across load bearings and municipal coordinates.
[Mission Complete: Secure VET-PRIME-CEN-001. Reward: Absolute Ownership of Control Node: VET-PRIME-CEN-001. Access to Architectural Sub-Registry: GRANTED.]

Rivo didn't hesitate. He wasn't just here to stop the bombs; he was here to take everything. He focused, pushing past the pain, his mind tracing the hidden veins and arteries of the colossal structure around them. "Basto," he subvocalized into his comms unit, "I need a list. Every load-bearing strut, every ventilation conduit, every elevator shaft, every energy junction in this building. Now." Even now, after everything, the greed in him was insatiable, an ever-present hum beneath his skin.
From the other end, Basto Kanto's voice crackled, laced with a tremor of awe. "Rivo? You actually did it! The bombs stopped! The Sump-Ward... it's safe!" Then, snapping back to his professional rigor, "Understood, boss. Pulling deep municipal schematics now. Burst incoming in five seconds. It covers everything."
Rivo's optic feed blazed with a wireframe schematic of the tower. Luminescent blue tracks mapped every core artery. He flattened his hand against the glass deck, pushing his intent into the terminal.
[Filing: Structural Column, Sector 33-Gamma. Deed Issued. Title: Rivo Zann.]
[Filing: Main Ventilation Shaft, Line V-7. Deed Issued. Title: Rivo Zann.]
[Filing: Emergency Elevator Control Node, High-Tier. Deed Issued. Title: Rivo Zann.]
Every receipt rang through the console like an auctioneer's gavel. The heir backed toward the threshold as the wireframe flipped from cool cyan to jade green.
"You can't do this," the dispossessed brother choked out. "This parcel belongs to our trust! Centuries of legal precedence!"
Rivo turned around, mouth set hard. "Precedent dies when the registry clears the balance." A parchment-textured projection unspooled in midair between them, stamped with Rivo's signature beneath the brass-embossed registry seal.
Just then, the reinforced door to the server room slid open with a hiss. Two figures, sleek and menacing, entered. They weren't the Vettor Praetorian Guard. They wore blank slate-grey plating beneath matte visors, marked only by the notched scales of the archaic city court.
[Eviction Order: VET-PRIME-CEN-001. Executing.]
The brother shrank back, boots tangling in cabling. "Private security? Whose badge is that?"
"Bailiffs," Rivo said, pointing a skinned finger. "Sent by your new landlord." The wardens clamped lock-grips around the scion's elbows. He thrashed, shrieking against the grip: "I sit on the high board! I'll have you incinerated!"
"You're an unregistered occupant," Rivo countered. The wardens hauled the kicking aristocrat through the threshold into the hall corridor, stamping digital notices onto each retained bodyguard as they cleared the floor.
Down in the marble concourse, wardens funneled senior executives onto the rain-slick curb. Soaked broadcloth clung to shivering board members while the dislodged heir spat curses into the downpour.
Suddenly, Ciana Vettor stepped out from a side corridor, flanked by her own loyal security detail. Her mouth curled in sharp appraisal. She surveyed her humiliated relatives, her own position within the now-shattered Vettor Conglomerate solidified beyond question, albeit under a new, utterly unexpected regime.
She approached the console, tapping a lacquered nail on the brass frame. "My siblings are sitting on wet pavement," she murmured. "Yet our agreement covered targeted insolvency, not an absolute seizure of the high floors."
"Your rivals are bankrupt and your seat is vacant," Rivo said, turning his head. "My cut was the structural deed. Here is the sublease for your operating desks. Effective immediately. The monthly rate reflects prime market location."
Ciana skimmed the clauses, nostrils flaring as she spotted the gross revenue tithes. She took the brass stylus offered by a warden and signed the margin. The digital folio locked with a mechanical ping.
Dawn cracked over Gresca in dull charcoal and slate. Rivo stood against the floor-to-ceiling glass, gazing down past the drenched terraces toward the low roofs of the Sump-Ward, silent and uncratered.
[Air Rights Secured: The Spire, Quadrant Alpha. Commencing Atmospheric Utility Tenders.]
A small, satisfied smile touched Rivo's lips. There was always another chokepoint. There was always another toll.
