Chapter 2: The Weight of Held Breath

Cold water dripped from the ends of Kajtek’s damp hair, tracing a chilling line down his spine. He stood frozen in the dim hallway, his chest rising and falling in silent, shallow gasps. Just feet away, the door to Baśka’s bedroom stood slightly ajar, a sliver of warm, amber light slicing through the darkness of the corridor.
Inside that room, the air felt heavy, saturated with the musky scent of sweat and expensive perfume. Konrad had fled minutes ago, leaving the front door slamming in his wake. Yet, the electric tension he left behind remained, vibrating through the floorboards and straight into Kajtek’s bare soles.
Taking a hesitant step forward, Kajtek pressed his back against the cool plaster wall. His heart battered his ribs like a trapped bird. Every instinct screamed at him to turn around, to lock himself in his own room and pretend he hadn't heard the raw, submissive pleas of his housemate.
Memories of his ex-girlfriend, Marta, flashed through his mind like a bitter warning. She had spent two years ignoring him, treating him like a convenient piece of background noise while she flirted with other men right in front of him. He had been invisible, a ghost haunting his own relationship, begging for a single scrap of genuine attention. That wound had never truly healed; it had left a hollow, aching void inside him, a desperate hunger to be seen, to be the absolute focus of someone’s world.
Now, staring at Baśka, that void threatened to swallow him whole.
But curiosity was a venomous thing. It flowed through his veins, warm and demanding, overriding his sense of decency. He slipped closer, his eyes scanning the narrow gap of the door.
Baśka lay stretched across the mattress. Her wrists were securely bound to the dark wooden slats of the headboard with thick, black satin ribbons. Her knees were slightly bent, parting just enough to hint at the dark heat beneath. Her white t-shirt was pulled up to her chest, exposing the soft curve of her waist and the flat plane of her stomach.
Breath caught in Kajtek's throat. He stared, completely transfixed by the vulnerability of her posture. This was Baśka, the girl who barely looked at him in the kitchen, the woman who treated him like a piece of living room room. Now, she was entirely at the mercy of whoever entered the room.
Slowly, as if sensing the shift in the air, Baśka wriggled against her bonds. The satin ribbons strained against the headboard with a soft, sliding sound. She didn't open her eyes; instead, she arched her back, tilting her head back into the pillows.
With a low, deliberate motion, she nudged her shoulder, pulling the hem of her t-shirt down just an inch to cover the very edge of her breasts. It was a calculated gesture of modesty that only served to heighten the raw sensuality of her display.
"Konrad..." she whispered into the dark, her voice a velvety, trembling thread. "I know you're there. Come back."
Hearing her call another man's name should have stung, but instead, it ignited a fierce, burning pressure in Kajtek's groin. His towel felt suffocatingly tight. He was fully, agonizingly hard, his length throbbing against his lower abdomen with a demanding ache.
Shivers ran down his bare arms as he stood in the doorway. The contrast between the cold air of the hallway and the thick, heavy heat radiating from her room was dizzying. He could hear the soft rustle of the sheets as she shifted, the quiet sigh that escaped her parted lips. His hand, gripping the edge of the doorframe, trembled so hard he feared the wood would creak.
An intoxicating sense of power flooded his senses. She didn't know Konrad had left the building. She thought the shadow lingering at her door was her lover, returning to finish what he started.
Stepping over the threshold, Kajtek let the darkness swallow him. He didn't make a sound, his bare feet sliding silently across the soft rug. The door creaked slightly behind him, but the sound was drowned out by the heavy, rhythmic breathing of the girl on the bed.
"Konrad?" she whispered again, her lips parting. "Don't play games. Untie me."
Instead of answering, Kajtek approached the edge of the mattress. The scent of her vanilla lotion mixed with the sharp tang of his own desire. He let his towel slip to the floor, standing completely naked in the dim, shadowed room.
His erection stood rigid, pointing toward her face as he leaned over the bed. He could see the pulse jumping in her throat, a rapid, frantic beat that mirrored his own. The sheer danger of the moment made his blood roar in his ears.
Her skin looked luminous in the dim amber light, glowing with a thin sheen of perspiration. He watched the way her chest rose and fell, her small, rounded breasts straining against the cotton of her t-shirt. The sight of her so completely bound, so utterly vulnerable, made his pulse thrum in his temples like a heavy bassline. He had never seen a woman look so raw, so stripped of her usual cold defenses.
Bending lower, he brought himself closer to her face. His heat radiated against her cheek. She didn't open her eyes, keeping them tightly shut, fully immersed in the submissive role she had chosen.
"How do you know I can do this?" she murmured, her voice laced with a sudden, breathless hesitation as she felt the warm proximity of his body.
Kajtek swallowed hard, forcing his voice down to a deep, gravelly whisper to mask his true identity. "I hear you fucking behind the wall. I know you can, and I know you like it."
A small, shivering gasp escaped her lips. She didn't protest. She didn't pull away. Instead, a slow, knowing smile played at the corners of her mouth, her chest rising rapidly as her breathing turned shallow.
Gently, Kajtek pressed the hot, thick tip of his length against her closed lips. He nudged them, feeling the soft, wet texture of her skin. The sensation was so intense he almost lost his grip on reality right then and there.
Slowly, she parted her lips, allowing him to slide inside her warm, wet mouth. She sucked in a breath, her throat working as she took him in. Her bound hands clenched into tight fists against the headboard, the satin ribbons creaking under the strain of her sudden movement.
Every nerve ending in his body screamed with a pleasure so intense it bordered on pain. He felt the soft slide of her tongue, the gentle suction of her lips as she pulled him deeper. The realization that she was performing this intimate, raw act on him—Kajtek, the invisible roommate—sent a rush of hot adrenaline straight to his brain. It was a forbidden triumph, a dark victory over every time he had been overlooked and cast aside. She was entirely focused on him, her world narrowed down to the touch of his skin against hers, even if she believed a different name.
Wrapped in the darkness, with her eyes closed, she felt exquisite. The raw dominance of the act sent waves of intense pleasure straight to Kajtek’s core. He moved slowly, pushing an inch deeper, savoring the tight, humid heat of her mouth.
She was entirely submissive, tied to the bed, clearly highly aroused by the sudden, rough turn their game had taken. She wanted more. He could feel it in the way her tongue swirled around him, the way her hips twitched against the mattress.
But then, a cold realization pierced through his haze of pleasure. She thought he was Konrad. If she opened her eyes, even for a fraction of a second, the illusion would shatter.
Fear, cold and sharp, gripped his chest. If she discovered it was him—the quiet, boring roommate she ignored—the rejection would be absolute. She would scream. She would call the police. He would be ruined, cast out into the cold, invisible world he had fought so hard to escape.
Slowly, agonizingly, Kajtek pulled himself out of her mouth. He took a step back, his heart hammering violently against his ribs. He felt the cold air hit his wet skin, shocking him back to reality.
"Konrad?" she questioned, her voice thick and confused as her mouth was suddenly left empty. "Why did you stop?"
Kajtek didn't answer. He scooped up his towel from the floor, his movements frantic but utterly silent. He backed out of the room, keeping his eyes locked on her bound form until he cleared the doorway.
Slipping into the hallway, he ran. He didn't look back. He bolted into his own bedroom, closing the door behind him with the absolute minimum of noise, clicking the lock into place with trembling fingers.

Darkness enveloped his small bedroom as he threw himself onto the bed, pulling the heavy duvet over his head. He lay there shaking, his breath coming in ragged, painful gasps. His heart felt like it was going to burst through his chest.
Never in his life had he felt such a potent mix of terror and absolute, blinding arousal. He was still rock-hard, the lingering warmth of her mouth still tingling on his skin. He touched himself through his boxers, his mind replaying every second of the encounter.
She didn't know. Or did she?
He lay under his covers, staring into the dark, his mind spinning out of control. The psychological trap was already snapping shut around him, and he had willingly walked right into it. He knew he should be horrified by what he had done. It was risky, transgressive, potentially ruinous. Yet, as he touched his chest, feeling the frantic pounding of his heart, he knew he had never felt more alive.
A sudden, intoxicating thought bloomed in his mind. He held her secret. He had stepped into her hidden world, and for the first time in his life, he wasn't invisible. He was the absolute center of her domestic orbit, even if she didn't realize it yet.
This secret was a weapon, a thrilling bond that connected them through the thin apartment walls. He was no longer just the quiet roommate. He was the shadow in her room, the participant in her deepest, darkest desires.
Quietly, he tried to calm his racing thoughts. He stared at the ceiling, watching the pale moonlight filter through the blinds. The apartment was silent now, the storm of passion and fear settling into an uneasy quiet.
Hours seemed to pass in minutes. Kajtek lay perfectly still, listening to the house settle. Every creak of the floorboards made him flinch, his nerves stretched to their absolute limit.
He wondered if she had untied herself yet. Did Konrad ever return? Or was she still lying there, waiting, wondering why her lover had treated her with such silent, intense urgency before vanishing?
Sweat dried on his skin, leaving him shivering beneath the heavy blankets. He pulled them tighter around his shoulders, trying to block out the vivid images of her bound wrists and her parted lips. But they were burned into his retinas.
Suddenly, a soft rustle broke the silence of the hallway. Kajtek froze, his entire body locking up. He held his breath, straining his ears to catch the faint sound.
Deliberate, slow footsteps echoed on the hardwood floor outside. They were light, dragging slightly, moving closer and closer to his door.
His heart stopped. He squeezed his eyes shut, praying it was just his imagination playing tricks on his overloaded senses. But the footsteps grew louder, distinct and undeniable.
While trembling under his covers, Kajtek hears soft, deliberate footsteps stop right outside his bedroom door, followed by the slow, agonizing rattle of his brass doorknob turning.
