Chapter 15:Pineapple, Parasails, and Pure Chaos

The private Grand Wailea estate suite in Maui did not merely overlook the Pacific Ocean; it practically hovered over it with imperial arrogance. The five-thousand-square-foot penthouse came equipped with a private infinity pool, three wrap-around marble balconies, a personal staff of four resort concierges, and an endless panoramic view of turquoise waters and swaying palm trees.
It was an absolute tropical paradise.
It was also, as Ji-won quickly discovered within three minutes of stepping through the carved teak double doors, an active war zone of overprotective brotherly insanity.
"I don't care if the local customs dictate that leis are woven from fresh orchids!" Do-hyun’s voice boomed from the grand foyer, echoing off the high, vaulted ceilings. He was currently standing in front of two deeply bewildered Hawaiian resort greeters, wearing a bright yellow, violently loud floral cabana shirt, matching swim trunks, and a giant pair of mirrored sunglasses sitting atop his head. "Has this specific batch of orchids been tested for botanical allergens? My little brother has sensitive skin! If he gets a minor localized rash from an unsterilized petal, I am buying this hotel group and firing the entire floriculture division!"
"Sir, these are organic Vanda orchids grown in our private greenhouse—" the head concierge attempted to explain, holding a silver tray laden with fresh tropical garlands.
"Organic means bugs!" Do-hyun gasped, dramatically shielding Ji-won—who was standing behind him in a wide-brimmed straw sunhat and an oversized linen shirt—with his broad frame. "Ji-won-ah, don't breathe near the pollen!"
"Do-hyun Hyung, please," Ji-won whined softly, his face burning bright crimson as he peeked out from behind Do-hyun’s shoulder. "I'm not allergic to flowers! I like flowers!"
"You don't know what you're allergic to in a foreign hemisphere!" Do-hyun insisted firmly, snatching a bottle of SPF 100 organic sunscreen from his beach tote. "Hold still. I need to apply the base layer before you step onto the balcony. The UV index in Hawaii is a silent killer."
Sitting on a plush rattan sofa nearby, Ji-ho was completely unbothered by the chaos. He was wearing a cream linen suit, dark sunglasses, and had already set up a portable mahogany bookstand on the glass coffee table.
"Technically," Ji-ho chimed in, lazily turning a page of a dense Hawaiian-English dictionary with a pair of brass tweezers, "the word *'lei'* in ancient Polynesian contexts carries over forty distinct cultural connotations, none of which involve dermatological warfare. Furthermore, Do-hyun, your vocal volume is currently causing a localized acoustic disturbance that is disrupting my analysis of East Polynesian vowel shifts."
"Shut up about vowel shifts, Ji-ho!" Do-hyun snapped, aggressively squirting a dollop of thick white sunscreen onto his palm. "Our brother was almost consumed by the corporate machine in Seoul! He needs sunshine, vitamin D, and a complete absence of intellectual stress!"
Ji-won let out a long, long sigh, dropping his small travel bag onto the floorboards.
After the heart-stopping terror of his tarmac confrontation with Lu Sheng yesterday morning, being smothered in SPF 100 by an overly enthusiastic older brother was almost... comforting. It was absurd, it was loud, and it was completely ridiculous, but it was safe. For seven glorious days, the dark, suffocating shadow of Lu Sheng's blackmail was locked away on the other side of the international date line.
*I'm free,* Ji-won thought, a tiny, genuine smile finally breaking across his face. *I can actually relax.*
That sweet, blissful illusion of peace lasted for approximately forty-five seconds.
The heavy oak doors of the master bedroom suite clicked open, and Min-jun stepped out into the living area.
If Do-hyun looked like a walking Hawaiian postcard and Ji-ho looked like a lost Victorian professor, Min-jun looked like an operative for an international intelligence agency who had accidentally taken a wrong turn into a beach resort.
Min-jun was wearing crisp black tailored trousers, a dark silk dress shirt with the top two buttons undone, and a silver Bluetooth earpiece clipped firmly to his ear. He was holding two encrypted satellite tablets, his sharp eyes darting over high-definition security diagnostics as he walked.
"Executive Kang," Min-jun spoke into his earpiece, his voice dark, smooth, and utterly devoid of vacation spirit. "Have the resort’s perimeter team sweep the western ridge. I want thermal imaging active along the private beach cove from 22:00 to 06:00 daily. If any unauthorized watercraft—including commercial jet skis or private yachts—approach within two nautical miles of our villa, log the registration numbers immediately."
Do-hyun stopped mid-rub, his hands still covered in white sunscreen, staring at Min-jun in absolute disbelief. "Min-jun... are you setting up a naval blockade around our resort?"
"It is a standard defensive perimeter," Min-jun replied calmly, setting his tablets on the dining table without looking up. "The Lu Conglomerate maintains three shell companies registered in Honolulu. Lu Sheng's secondary private jet was logged departing Incheon sixteen hours after ours. I am simply ensuring our family's security line remains uncompromised while Ji-won rests."
Ji-won’s heart instantly did a terrifying backflip into his throat. He froze, his straw hat slipping slightly over his eyes. *Lu Sheng’s jet left Incheon?!*
"Lu Sheng is in Hawaii?!" Ji-won squeaked out before he could stop himself, his voice cracking horribly.
Min-jun stopped tapping his tablet screen. He slowly raised his head, his dark, analytical eyes locking onto Ji-won’s pale face with an unsettling intensity.
"I didn't say he was in Hawaii, Ji-won-ah," Min-jun noted softly, his voice dropping to that smooth, dangerous register he used in boardrooms. "I said his *secondary jet* departed Korea. Why? Does the prospect of his presence concern you?"
Ji-won’s brain instantly went into complete, catastrophic meltdown mode. He had fallen right into the trap! Min-jun was fishing, and Ji-won had practically jumped into the net with a silver fork in his mouth!
"N-No!" Ji-won stammered, frantically waving his hands in front of his face. "I don't care about his jet! I don't even know what his jet looks like! I thought... I thought you meant he was coming here to steal your shipping contracts!"
"See?!" Do-hyun yelled, stepping directly into Min-jun’s line of sight and aggressively thrusting a bottle of coconut water into Min-jun's chest. "You're doing it again! You're stressing him out with your military intelligence briefs! We are in Maui! We are here to swim with sea turtles and eat shaved ice!"
"I am merely exercising necessary caution—" Min-jun started.
"No more corporate talk!" Do-hyun declared, turning around and grabbing Ji-won by the arm. "Ji-won-ah, change into your swim trunks! We are going down to the private cove right now for your mandatory fun itinerary!"
Ten minutes later, Ji-won was dragged down the resort's private stone steps toward the sparkling white sands of the secluded beach.
The tropical sun was warm against his skin, the ocean breeze smelling of salt and hibiscus. Do-hyun had forced him into a pair of mint-green swimming shorts, a matching sun-shirt, and a bright yellow inflatable arm-floatie on his left arm "just in case a freak tidal wave hits the shore."
Ji-ho sat under a massive canvas umbrella near the tide pools, wearing his full linen suit and reading his dictionary, occasionally shouting out Polynesian linguistic facts over the sound of the crashing waves. Min-jun stood twenty paces back near the cabana bar, dressed in his dark suit trousers, holding a glass of iced espresso while his security team covertly patrolled the palm tree line with binoculars disguised as bird-watching gear.
"Alright, sweetie!" Do-hyun cheered, adjusting a pair of oversized red snorkel goggles over Ji-won’s face. "Phase One of Operation Tropical Relaxation: Parasailing!"
Ji-won blinked through the tinted plastic of his goggles. "P-Parasailing? Hyung, isn't that... high up?"
"It’s completely safe!" Do-hyun assured him, pointing toward a luxury speedboat idling near the wooden dock, where two resort instructors were prepping a massive, colorful parachute. "I booked the double harness! I’ll be right beside you the whole time! You just sit back, look at the ocean, and feel the freedom!"
Before Ji-won could object, Do-hyun led him down the wooden dock, buckling Ji-won into a heavy-duty safety harness with enough padding to survive a drop from orbit. Within five minutes, they were strapped together into the tandem rig on the back platform of the speeding boat.
"Ready, gentlemen?" the boat captain called out over the roar of the engine.
"Launch us into paradise!" Do-hyun shouted, giving a dramatic thumbs-up.
The winch released with a loud, mechanical *whir*, and the giant wind-filled canopy caught the tropical breeze.
Within seconds, Ji-won felt his feet leave the wooden deck. The ocean dropped away beneath them as they floated smoothly, effortlessly, up into the crystal-blue Hawaiian sky.
"WOOOOOOO!" Do-hyun roared beside him, his arms spread wide as they rose fifty, a hundred, two hundred feet above the sparkling water. "Look at that view, Ji-won-ah! Isn't this amazing?! No work! No corporate stress! No Min-jun staring at you like a hawk!"
Ji-won let out a breathless, genuine laugh, his initial fear vanishing as the cool ocean wind whipped through his hair. From up here, the resort looked like a tiny toy model, the palm trees like green feathers lining the coast. The sheer, weightless freedom of floating in the endless sky filled his chest with a rare, intoxicating sense of peace.
He was flying. He was miles away from his past life, miles away from corporate wars, miles away from—
*BZZZ.*
Ji-won froze mid-air.
The vibration came directly from the waterproof pouch strapped securely around his waist—the pouch where he had secretly shoved his phone before leaving the suite.
Ji-won’s heart stopped. *No. It can't be.*
He was floating two hundred feet above the Pacific Ocean, strapped into a parasail with his older brother! How could his phone be vibrating?!
With shaking, clumsy fingers, Ji-won unzipped the small waterproof pouch, pulling out his phone. He held it low against his thigh so Do-hyun—who was currently screaming in delight at a passing sea turtle far below—couldn't see the screen.
A single notification popped up from the black-listed app.
Ji-won unlocked the screen with his thumb.
The app opened to reveal a crystal-clear, high-definition photograph taken from a massive, ultra-luxury motor yacht idling approximately three hundred yards out in the deep blue waters beyond the resort's private cove.
The photograph was zoomed in directly on Ji-won, capturing him floating in mid-air in his mint-green sun-shirt and bright yellow arm-floatie, looking utterly ridiculous against the blue sky.
Beneath the image, a text message appeared:
**[Lu Sheng]:** *The mint-green suits you better than the bucket hat, little angel. Though your brother’s yellow cabana shirt is an absolute crime against visual aesthetics.*
Ji-won’s breath hitched. He nearly dropped the phone into the ocean below.
Frantic, Ji-won raised his head and looked out toward the horizon, his eyes widening in pure, unadulterated shock.
Anchored just outside the resort’s two-nautical-mile security boundary was a sleek, jet-black three-deck megayacht. It looked like a floating obsidian fortress, its dark tinted glass and sharp hull cutting a terrifyingly elegant silhouette against the turquoise ocean.
Standing on the top sun deck of the black yacht, holding a pair of high-powered marine binoculars in one hand and a glass of champagne in the other, was a tall, familiar figure in a crisp white linen shirt.
Even from two hundred feet in the air, Ji-won could feel Lu Sheng’s dark, possessive gaze locked directly onto him.
*BZZZ.*
Another text flashed onto Ji-won's screen.
**[Lu Sheng]:** *Did you really think two thousand miles of ocean could keep me from watching my favorite toy? Enjoy your parasail, sweet boy. I'll be waiting at the resort's private beach lounge for sunset.*
Ji-won stared at the phone, then out at the black megayacht, letting out a soft, hysterical whimper of complete, utter despair.
"Ji-won-ah!" Do-hyun shouted happily beside him, completely oblivious as he pointed down toward the coast. "Look! Min-jun is waving at us from the dock with his binoculars! Isn't family bonding wonderful?!"
Ji-won looked down at the dock, where Min-jun was indeed raising his binoculars—unaware that three hundred yards behind them, his arch-nemesis was sipping champagne on a black megayacht, watching his little brother float through the sky.
Ji-won closed his eyes, burying his face in his hands as he swung gently in the Hawaiian breeze.
*I am never getting a vacation,* Ji-won thought, weeping internally. *Never in my entire life.*
