A Promise Broken, A Truth Revealed

The floating ring split down its granite axis under the sole of Banyu’s left sandal.
He had not swung a fist. He had only taken three paces forward.

[Resonance: Catastrophic]
"Keep dancing, butcher!" Jati screamed. The obsidian sphere embedded in Jati's breastplate wept ribbons of curdled purple smog, each tendril snapping like dry bone against the tournament wardings. "Show them what you turn into! Let them smell the ash before you burn the heavens!"
Banyu kept his chin low, his rough cotton sleeves whipping in the gale created by his own respiration. His thoughts drifted south, three leagues down to the damp alleys of the lower district, where a pale girl sat beside a cooling kettle of ginger tea. *I promised her I would never throw a blow.* He had swore it over bruised knuckles when he was ten; he had repeated it beside her cot every time the cough racked her ribs.
Jati lunged. The air behind him detonated in three successive conical shears, his blade slicing along a trajectory that left black, glass-like scars hanging in empty space.
Banyu shifted his right heel half an inch backward.
The displacement struck Jati like the hull of a skyship dropped from the stratosphere. Jati’s breastplate crunched inward; purple smog sprayed out of his teeth as he hurtled across the ring, carving a trench three yards deep through the ancient basalt before crashing into the reinforced stadium pillars.
Spectators shrieked, scattering from the lower tiers as fractures raced up the masonry.

"I do not want your future," Banyu said. The words fell flat, stripped of malice, yet the sheer pressure behind his vocal cords blew away the dust cloud before Jati could stagger to his feet.
"You don't get to choose!" Jati dragged himself up, spitting dark clots onto the ruined stone. His left shoulder hung dislocated, yet he grinned with a wild, fanatical certainty. "You think you're gentle? You think your meek little facade fools the wheel of time? Every pace you take tears the sky apart! Look beneath your feet, you peasant parasite! Look what you're doing to Puncak Awan!"
Banyu glanced down. The mountain beneath the stadium groaned. Hairline rifts glowed with pale amber vapor, leaking out into the thin high-altitude air.
Every time his foot fell, the earth gave up its balance.
*He is right.* Stone yielded wherever his weight settled; the system never erased inertia, it merely routed the shock into the world beneath him.
"End this!" Jati howled, lunging forward with his off-hand cocked, the obsidian sphere flaring with necrotic violet heat. "Kill me now, or I swear by the bones of the ancient titans, I will tear her throat out before you can take another step!"
The roar of the pavilion dropped to a dull hiss. Gray rings of disturbed vapor coiled around Jati's knuckles, distinct as twisted wire.
*Not her.*
He stepped forward.
[Stride Count: 14,210]
[Kinetic Output: Unbounded]
The atmospheric barrier blew apart with a sonic detonation that dropped half the lower tier to their knees. Banyu appeared before Jati instantly, fist cocked, an ocean of unrefined force gathered at his knuckles—a strike meant to erase Jati, the ring, and the very memory of the threat.
Then he saw her.
Cahya stood thirty paces past the barrier line, her hands raised, maintaining an emerald-green alchemical shield over a cluster of trapped academy novices. Her mouth gaped open, her stare fixed squarely on Banyu’s lifted fist. The displaced shockwave of his punch would not just kill his rival; it would paste her against the grandstand.
Banyu pulled the blow.
He arrested his knuckle an inch from Jati’s temple, the choked momentum tearing through his own shoulder ligaments and driving his sandals three feet down into the arena bed.
Jati did not flinch. Jati chuckled.
"Got you," the reborn youth whispered.
Instead of striking Banyu, Jati slammed his bleeding palms flat onto the mosaic tiles. The obsidian sphere ripped itself from his chest, plunging into the floor like a drill.
"Did you really think this duel was about pride?" Jati wheezed, his mouth filling with blood. "About proving who was superior in the arena? Every clash in this tournament, every spell cast since dawn, every thread of energy drawn from the crowds—I aligned the foundation nodes three days ago! It was never about winning! It was about gathering enough power to trap you!"
Carved runes spanning the circumference of the stadium blazed with suffocating, oily violet brilliance. Iron pylons erupted from the periphery, casting a web of chain-bound light directly around Banyu, pinning his shins, his shoulders, his throat.
[Target Bound: External Array Restriction]
[Batin Flow: Suppressed]
"Die in a cage, butcher," Jati rasped, sinking to his knees with an ecstatic shudder. "The beast never wakes if the world-breaker is choked in his cradle."
Banyu strained against the bindings. They were heavy, freezing his circulation, cold as grave dirt. Yet as the array flared to its blinding zenith, drinking from the tournament's reserves to crush Banyu into a single speck of dust, the ground did not settle.
It shrieked.
A sound rose from the abyss beneath the floating peak—not the grinding of stone, but the agony of living, petrified sinew snapping under unbearable strain. A vibration shook the teeth in Banyu’s jaw, vibrating upward from the colossal carcass Kota Hujan was anchored upon.
The entire southern pavilion sheered off, tumbling into the clouds below.
"Stop it! Release the seal!" a voice shrieked over the howling winds.
Elder Warsito, master of the inner sanctum, crashed onto the arena floor, his ceremonial robes torn, his silver hair wild. His face showed no disgust for Banyu, nor pride for Jati; ash-pale, he aimed an unsteady finger toward the center of the sealing array.
"Jati, you utter lunatic, what have you done?!" Warsito screamed, falling to his knees as another catastrophic tremor rattled the plateau. "His steps were bearing the load! His core was feeding the ley lines! You fool! His power wasn't a threat—it was stabilizing the dying Heart of the Beast!"
Jati’s manic grin froze.
Far below, stretching from the highest tier of the floating academy all the way down to the crowded streets of the lower districts, a canyon-wide chasm ripped across the skin of Kota Hujan.
