Chapter 10 of 10
Total Liquidation

“Objection, you’re just the former management.”
The words, laced with the sugary venom of a woman reborn, hung in the ballroom air, echoing in Bravio Galdoni’s ears long after Luzia had turned her back on him. The flash of a pen, the soft scrape of it across parchment, and the deed was done. Galvanix Innovations, the company he had painstakingly built on stolen dreams and borrowed ambition, was no more. It was Vencallo-Severin, a name that tasted like ash in his mouth.
He had spent the rest of the night in a daze, attempting to corner the Chief Magistrate, Delano, who merely smiled thinly and gestured to the signed documents. Cettia, her face contorted into a mask of pure, unadulterated fury, had vanished, leaving behind only a synthetic fog of vanilla perfume and a trail of unpaid caterer bills. She was, he realized later, already halfway across the continent, abandoning him to the ruins of his empire and the impending fraud charges that Severin’s legal team would undoubtedly pursue.
Now, the morning after, the Galdoni Tower, once a monument to his perceived genius, felt like a mausoleum. The brass plaque by the entrance, for years emblazoned with the sleek, angular 'Galvanix Innovations' logo, had been replaced overnight. In its stead, a new crest shimmered in the dawn light: a stylized Vencallo lily intertwined with the severe Galdoni family crest. Below it, in bold, undeniable script: Vencallo-Severin Enterprises. A new dawn, for everyone but him.
Bravio stood amidst the organized chaos of his former executive office, the once-gleaming space now an empty shell. His nameplate was gone. His framed accolades, his expensive art, the ergonomic leather chair he’d personally selected for its lumbar support – all gone, save for the chair itself. It sat forlornly in the center of the room, a large, furry, capybara-like creature sprawled across its plush seat, emitting a soft, contented rumble. Chumbo, the vile beast. The Marmotillo lifted its head, its beady eyes fixing on Bravio with an expression of pure, unadulterated malice. A low, warning growl vibrated in its chest, followed by a faint, acrid puff of gas that made Bravio instinctively recoil. The message was clear: this was Chumbo’s domain now.
A single, garish pink pastry box, adorned with tiny, hand-drawn sugar cookies, sat on what used to be his polished mahogany desk. It was one of Luzia’s old ones, a relic from her doormat days, and the sight of it filled him with a fresh wave of humiliation. This was all he had left to pack his life into. His precious ‘Project Vencallo’ files, his personal effects, the very essence of his ambition, reduced to a handful of paperclips and a deflated stress ball, all crammed into a box meant for macarons.
“Leaving so soon, Bravio?”
The voice was Severin Galdoni’s, smooth as aged whiskey, carrying just enough edge to cut. Bravio spun around, his face a mask of indignation. Severin stood framed in the doorway, impeccably dressed in a dark, tailored suit, a faint, lingering scent of expensive cologne and triumph clinging to him. Behind him, Luzia Vencallo stepped into the room. She wore a striking crimson power suit that seemed to absorb and reflect the morning light, her hair pulled back into a sharp, gleaming chignon. Her eyes, once so soft and pleading, now held the cool, assessing gaze of a predator who had just finished its feast. She looked utterly magnificent, and it twisted the knife in Bravio’s gut.
“This is an outrage!” Bravio sputtered, gesturing wildly at the empty room, at Chumbo on his chair. “You can’t just… liquidate everything! Where is Cettia? She pledged emergency funding! This is my enterprise!”
Luzia merely tilted her head, a faint, almost imperceptible smile playing on her lips. “It was your firm, Bravio. The corporate lawyers have already filed the dissolution papers. All remaining assets are being absorbed into Vencallo-Severin. The emergency funding Cettia secured? It was from Archon Conglomerate, which, as Severin revealed, he conveniently owns. So, yes, all that money just funded our takeover of you.”
Severin strolled further into the room, his gaze sweeping over the stripped walls. “As for Cettia, my legal team anticipates she’ll be facing a litany of fraud and embezzlement charges by lunchtime. She fled rather abruptly, didn’t she? A criminal liability, as it turns out. Who knew?” There was a wicked glint in his eyes, a mirroring of Luzia’s own triumphant gaze.
Bravio felt a cold sweat prickle his hairline. “But… my shares! My patents! My legacy!”
“Your shares were collateral, Bravio. Your patents were stolen,” Luzia said, her voice devoid of emotion. “As for your legacy… it’s being re-written. As a cautionary tale.” She watched him, unblinking, as he fumbled with the last few items on his desk, his hands shaking. He picked up a framed photo of them from their honeymoon – before his lies, before her awakening. He clutched it, a pathetic plea in his eyes. “Luzia, please… don’t you remember? What we had?”
Chumbo, sensing his distress, let out another prodigious blast of flatulence, making Bravio gag and drop the photo into the pink pastry box. The marmotillo then flopped onto its side, draping a possessive paw over the armrest of the leather chair, letting out a series of satisfied grunts.
“What we had,” Luzia stated, her voice chillingly calm, “was a misinterpretation of my grandfather’s will and a severe lack of good judgment on my part. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have a company to run. And a new office to inaugurate.”
With that, Luzia turned, her crimson suit swirling, and Severin placed a hand lightly on the small of her back, guiding her towards the elevator. Bravio watched them go, two silhouettes of power and undeniable connection, abandoning him to his pink pastry box and a flatulent rodent.
They ascended to the highest floor, to the sprawling penthouse office that had once belonged to Severin, now officially rebranded as the CEO’s suite for Vencallo-Severin Enterprises. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating a breathtaking vista of Mercanzia, the city spread out below them like a glittering mosaic of ambition and conquest.
Severin moved to a sleek bar cart, pulling out a chilled bottle of Bolzano Brut and two crystal flutes. The pop of the cork was loud in the expansive room, a celebratory gunshot.
“To new beginnings, Madam Galdoni-Vencallo,” he murmured, handing her a flute. His eyes, dark and intense, held a warmth she was only beginning to understand. “And to the sheer, unadulterated pleasure of watching a true lioness claim her pride.”
Luzia took the glass, the cool crystal a pleasing weight in her hand. “To total liquidation,” she countered, a wicked sparkle in her eyes. She took a sip, the fine bubbles dancing on her tongue.
Severin leaned against the bar, his gaze lingering on her. “You know,” he said, his voice dropping to a low, intimate register, “I always envisioned a wife who could hold her own. But I confess, I never dared dream of one who could legally eviscerate my enemies with such surgical ruthlessness.” He stepped closer, reaching out to gently cup her cheek, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw. “It’s… intoxicating, Luzia.”
Luzia held her ground. The air between them hummed with charged intent, a sharp resonance honed through months of depositions. There was no more grandstanding, no more corporate warfare, no more interruptions. Just them, the city at their feet, and the quiet assurance of what lay ahead.
Luzia reached into the small satin clutch at her waist. She pulled out a single, perfectly crafted macaron, its shell a delicate shade of emerald green, hinting at a rich pistachio filling. She held it up to him, her eyes shining.
“A housewarming gift,” she said, her voice soft, playful. “And a declaration. I baked it for you. It’s lethal, in the best possible way.”
Severin’s lips curved into a slow, breathtaking smile. He leaned in, taking the macaron from her fingers with his own, his gaze never leaving hers. Their eyes locked, a silent conversation passing between them – of shared triumphs, of unexpected desires, of a future forged in steel and tempered with a surprising, scorching affection. He took a small bite of the confection, savoring the pistachio sugar, before his lips met hers, deliberate and possessive.
The city of Mercanzia glittered below, an empire conquered, a new dynasty begun. And in the penthouse, amidst the champagne and the weight of absolute victory, Luzia Galdoni-Vencallo stood undisputed mistress of her future.
The End.
