Tavvio blocked out the countdown. His gaze locked onto the colossal central column that pierced the chamber's core. The spire revolved around this single stone spindle. It was also, he knew, a massively exploitable piece of collision data. He scrambled to his feet, the still-glitching 'Elixir of True Resurrection' — now just a shimmering, unstable loaf of rye — clutched in his hand.
“Rillan! Vessa! Oshni! The main shaft! Push it! Now!” Tavvio barked across the roar. “Against the base! All your might!”
Rillan, his dark blades buzzing with raw force, asked no questions. He slammed his plated shoulder into the masonry with an echoing shout. His transformed bulk crackled against the masonry, sending tremors through the base. Chips of stone, no longer obeying gravity, floated upwards into the encroaching void.
Vessa threw herself forward. Her shoulder plowed straight against the granite blocks, bruised muscles straining under her tunic. A low growl rumbled in her throat. “If we’re going to die, we’re taking this blasted place with us!”
Oshni, her merchant’s mind processing the sheer absurdity of the situation at lightning speed, saw the flicker in Tavvio’s eyes. A chance. A ludicrous, profitable, game-breaking opportunity. “Push, you fools! This entire structure is a market asset! Don’t let it despawn!” She braced herself, ignoring the shrieking sirens, and added her considerable strength to the effort, her silk robes tearing against the rough stone.
[WORLD DELETION IN 1...]
The crimson light intensified, blinding. The white void outside the dissolving walls began to swallow the Spire itself, gnawing at its edges. The Anti-Virus, a hulking, chrome-plated horror, re-coalesced from a cloud of deleted particles. It let out a guttural shriek, its optical sensors flaring, aligning targeting reticles across the floor.
But Tavvio was faster. He sprinted for the cracked stone seam. A sliver of unpatched render error separated the foundation flags from the upright blocks. With practiced precision, he jammed the glitched rye loaf into the seam. It didn’t just stick; it *merged*, blooming into a chaotic vortex of numeric data and breadcrumbs.
[COLLISION OVERLOAD. MAX BUFFER CAPACITY EXCEEDED.]
A deafening, resonating *crack* split the air. Not stone breaking, but spatial physics giving out. The masonry groaned like a ship’s hull buckling against ice. The shockwave threw Rillan, Vessa, and Oshni backward as the floor, the walls, and the Anti-Virus Kastor began to stretch into warped polygons. The world around them became a kaleidoscope of tearing textures and expanding polygons. The spire, not collapsing, but glitching into a new dimension, was pulled, screaming, into the featureless white void.
They tumbled through a dizzying maelstrom of raw data, the wireframe skeleton of the Spire rushing past them in a torrent of blue lines. The Anti-Virus Kastor, caught in the same distortion, was a mangled, thrashing mess of chrome and error messages. Their boots slammed onto flat surfaces. The chaotic blur snapped into the stark wireframe grid of an engine sandbox.
The Anti-Virus lay nearby as an inert, sparking metal husk, its purge routines frozen mid-cycle.
Before them, at the very heart of the room, hovered the Server Core, a massive, crystalline structure humming with latent power. And from its glowing depths, an ethereal, god-like projection of Tavvio’s past self, 'Tavvio_Dev', materialized. It was translucent, formed of pure light and code, yet its eyes, ancient and weary, held a startling familiarity.
“Tavvio,” the avatar spoke in an flat tone. “You broke collision constraints. You reached the core.” The projection gestured, raising a luminescent command prompt between them. “Take root privileges. Rewrite Vormira. Fix the bugs. Create a flawless realm. A world without glitches, without pain, without... error.”
Tavvio stared at the terminal, then at his friends. Rillan, flexing his glitch-knightly blades, a wide, innocent grin splitting his face. Vessa, already checking for new ways to patch her torn tunic, her eyes scanning for threats, ready to defend him. Oshni was already calculating how to monetize access to raw engine space, her amber eyes flicking over the coordinate grid. None of them were perfect. All of them were messy, chaotic, deeply, wonderfully flawed.
“Flawless?” Tavvio said softly. He looked up at his past self, a faint smile playing on his lips. “I tried that once. It was boring. And it lacked all of *this*.” He gestured to Rillan, Vessa, and Oshni. “It didn’t have them. Their quirks, their mistakes, their stupidly brilliant ideas… that’s what makes this world real. This isn’t a simulation to me anymore. They’re not NPCs. They’re my friends. And they’re perfectly real just the way they are.”
He faced the glowing console. He ignored the 'Rewrite World (Admin Override)' option. He scrolled past 'Delete All User Data'. His finger, steady and sure, hovered over a different prompt. A risky, game-changing prompt that might just break everything, or save it all.
“No utopia. No perfection,” Tavvio declared, his voice firm. “Just… open source.”
He pressed the button. The console sounded a sharp chime.
[WARNING: PATCH OVERWRITE: OPEN SOURCE SELECTED. THIS WILL REWRITE CORE WORLD ARCHITECTURE WITH UNVERIFIED USER DATA. POTENTIAL FOR CATASTROPHIC, UNRECOVERABLE WORLD DECOMPOSITION. PROCEED? Y/N]
He typed without hesitation: “Y.”
The wireframe sandbox dissolved, not into polygons, but into blinding white light. Nothing else remained.
