Chapter 9 of 10

God Factory, Open for Business

850 words

A guttural groan tore through the very foundations of the Spire, a sound that wasn't of stone or wind, but of something ancient and hungry clawing its way into being. The air in Master Jinay’s private chamber, already thick with alarm, grew cold with unnatural speed. Dust, fine as powdered bone, rained from the ceiling, dislodged by seismic tremors that bucked the flagstones underfoot. A roar, deep and all-consuming, erupted from below, shaking the entire Spire. The floor beneath them collapsed inward with a deafening crash, not just in Jinay’s chamber, but across the entire plateau. A chasm, vast and bottomless, split the Grand Dojo in two. From its depths surged a tide of black, chitinous horrors: Void-Beasts, more numerous than Hakan could have ever imagined, their multi-limbed carapaces writhing as they poured into the academy, leeching heat and light from the hall. Alarms shrieked, shrill and continuous, echoing off the newly exposed mountain walls. Trainees stumbled from their dormitories into the devastation, slipping on slate tiles. Elite instructors lunged forward, unleashing torrents of concentrated Ruh at the encroaching horde. Their strikes slammed into the monsters, but instead of cutting through chitin, the spirit-blasts rippled across dark carapaces and vanished, absorbed entirely. One gargantuan entity snapped its multi-hinged jaw shut around a veteran instructor, dragging him downward beneath the stone. Master Jinay raised the Soul Siphon, training its needle-like tip at the front rank. He channeled his core essence through the silver channels. A brilliant sapphire beam shot forth, striking the swarm. For a split second their silhouettes wavered, but the light dissolved into their oily skin without leaving a mark. The pack surged forward, unchecked. The Soul Siphon, designed to drain Ruh from a single, powerful individual, was useless against this ravenous, consuming tide. Hakan watched the carnage unfold, a cold dread twisting in his gut. The fear in Aylin’s eyes, the very future she’d shown him, was here, now. But he also saw the bravery of the instructors, the terror in the students, the utter futility of their efforts. He could strike them down with First Wind Form, but he could not hold an entire perimeter alone. He couldn't save everyone. Not by himself. And then, a different kind of warmth bloomed in his chest, a fierce, protective resolve. He reached out, his hand catching Aylin's, his fingers locking into hers. Her palm was clammy and shuddering, yet she did not wrench it back. He pulled her closer, the din of destruction fading to a distant hum. His gaze, usually so full of mischief, was utterly earnest, filled with a raw sincerity she rarely saw. “Aylin,” he said, his voice a low, steady murmur against the chaos, “I’ve been doing all this… the absurd power, the control… everything. I’ve been doing it to stand by your side.” He tightened his grip, his thumb gently stroking her knuckles. “Now, stand by mine.” Her eyes, wide and startled, met his. A flicker of something unreadable crossed her features – surprise, confusion, perhaps even a spark of the hope she had fought to bury. Hakan turned then, his grip on Aylin’s hand firm, but his expression shifting. The cheeky grin, the one that masked his deepest fears, returned, wider and more audacious than ever. He scanned the petrified faces of the huddled disciples, their Ruh a faint, sputtering glow. “Alright, everyone!” he bellowed across the hall, ringing loud and sharp above the shrieks. “Listen up! You want to know what the Spire has been hiding?” He didn't wait for an answer. He took a deep breath, and then, with a flash of insight, he didn't just activate the [Repetition Karma System] for himself. He inverted it, channeling its boundless energy outward. [Power: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000] [Current Level: 2,500,000,000] [Channeling Power: 100x multiplier activated for all allies within range. Duration: 60 seconds.] A pulse of Ruh burst from Hakan across the stone floor, washing over the cowering disciples. Their auras ignited into roaring gale-force vortexes, stone chips flying from beneath their boots as raw power flooded their meridians. A young novice whose spirit aura had dwindled to an ember suddenly felt a furnace ignite along his spine. He gasped, his small hands clenching, the air around him crackling with newly awakened force. Aylin gasped, too, her own Ruh surging, amplifying a hundredfold. Her previous peak, the zenith of her power in her past life, felt like a distant memory compared to this overwhelming, raw surge. It was Hakan’s power, but it was *hers* to wield, pure and uncorrupted, flowing through her like a divine river. Her steel blade lost all heft in her grip, light as balsa wood. Her sinews coiled with enough kinetic force to vault across the chasm. Unmatched clarity snapped across her mind, scouring away the dread of her past life. Hakan, still grinning, pointed a finger at the advancing tide of horrors. “See? God Factory, open for business! Go get ‘em!” With a unified roar shaking the bedrock, an army of super-charged disciples, led by Aylin with twin daggers of white-hot gale force in hand, charged headlong into the maw.
