Chapter 1 of 2

Wake Up

679 words

Death is like your bed in the morning when you have somewhere important to be. It calls to you, BECKONS you into its soft, loving embrace, soothing your eyes closed... and the next thing you know, you're late for class. Well, not like I've ever BEEN to class before. From birth, I've lived on a hospital bed, unable to walk farther than a few feet, incapable of breathing on my own and totally dependant on a set of machines, stuck in the hospital. I couldn't really call it LIVING. My mother... she was the best you could ever ask for. She stayed by my side for all those years, even though it must have been expensive just keeping me alive. I couldn't leave the bed, and all I could do was watch what they put up on screen for me. With all that free time, I watched a HUGE collection of movies, tv shows, soap operas. Harry Potter, Danny Phantom, Loser Ranger. I've seen a lot. It was all I could do. Sad, I know. Twenty years of life and my only contribution to society were cheesy quotes from the shows I watched. It was pathetic, but it was the life I had. And now I don't have even that. It happened suddenly. I was on my bed, re-watching an episode of a show-The resident Alien I think-when the lights flickered with a crack of thunder. BANG! Looking back, it was obvious that the Power had gone out, but at the time, I didn't Care to know. All that concerned me was the all-consuming PAIN taking hold of my body. My lungs seized and I convulsed, toppling off the bed with a panicked screech. My throat BURNED. My eyes bulged as I drew breath after breath, getting harder and harder. Slower. I was drowning, sinking under the waves of my own skin. The clock ticked away, a final count down. *T I C K* Mom, I'm sorry I never got to repay you for all you did. *T O C K* Doctor-san... Thank you for taking care of me so kindly *T I C K* Yu, my sweet little sister . . . ...Fuck you, you stole my Xbox. *T O C K* I couldn't breathe, I flailed on the floor, rolling into the side of the bed and scratching desperately at my throat as I fought for sweet, SWEET air- *T I C K* The frantic, shrill scream of the nurse followed me, fading fast into the void. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////__///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////_/// And now here I am, suspended in a never ending free fall. The deep, inky black around me-no, not black. Purple, blue, hues of red and shades of green, pulsing, undulating in the space around me. Before my eyes and under my skin, though I had no skin, no eyes, no mouth and no nose. No body to move.. ...And nobody to see. See what I did there? Hehehe.. ..It was cold, and it was warm, it wrapped around me and dragged me down into the depths. My mind was fading, and voices slid flitted around me like birds. Whispering sweet nothings and soothing words that offered no comfort. "Is it not warm? Come with us, you'll be very happy here" Is this how it ends? "There is no pain, no sorry where we go now" No, I don't want to go. "You cannot stay" I'M NOT READY TO GO! The warmth became an icy cold and claws crawled over my being. I was growing weak, but still.. Still... I r£@(#£d 0u+, stretching out against the encroaching pressure. If I was falling, I had to stop myself. Somehow, something... My hands(¿) caught on something like fabric, and it curled under my finger. A searing, AGONIZING pain shot up through my ¿arms? but I didn't let go. I have to get out of here. I have to... I have to... W A K E U P ! Author's note; For anyone who saw what the story looked like at first, sorry. It was a malfunction. 🥲. Til next time friends!
