Chapter 33 of 35

The Siege of Blood-Stone Citadel

494 words

The sky above the Blood-Stone Citadel burned in hues of bruised violet and blood-crimson. Below, a hundred thousand cultivators of the Nine-River Spirit Alliance held their formation in massive, glowing phalanxes, their flying swords forming a ceiling of steel and frost over the valley. Opposing them on the citadel's towering obsidian ramparts stood the Crimson-Fang Vampire Clan, their pale faces illuminated by blood-refining arrays that crackled with horrific, sanguinary energy. Spiritual artillery shells roared through the sky, shattering against the blood-shields with ear-splitting booms. It was an earth-shattering clash of titan forces—a meat grinder that bled both factions dry by the second. Three miles away, atop a jagged peak concealed by Clone Eleven's spatial barrier, Lylin stood with his arms folded inside his wide black sleeves. Beside him stood his war cabinet: Clone Twenty-Five (Shadow Executioner), Clone Twenty-Six (Realm Auditor), and Clone Twenty-Seven (Mind Weaver). Through the Mind Weaver's thralls—the eight converted High-Vampire Nobles now stationed at the citadel’s eastern supply gate—Lylin possessed a complete, real-time map of both armies' structural weaknesses. "Host," Clone Twenty-Six (Realm Auditor) reported, his runic stamps glowing with dark silver light. "The Nine-River Alliance has committed ninety percent of its spirit-crystal reserves to sustain the flying sword array. The Crimson-Fang Clan’s ancestral blood-pool is running at critical capacity to maintain the defensive barrier. Both sides will reach total exhaustion within three hours." "And the casualties?" Lylin asked softly, his golden eyes reflecting the fires of the battlefield. "Over six thousand cultivators and three thousand noble vampires have fallen in the outer trenches," Clone Eighteen (Soul Collector) reported via the neural link from the valley floor, his chained iron tome floating before him, practically bursting with harvested souls. "Energy units accumulated: +4,500." Lylin’s lips curved into a cold, merciless line. "Send in the Mind Weaver's thralls," Lylin commanded. "Have our converts open the eastern supply gate to the alliance's vanguard. Let the Nine-River Alliance breach the inner courtyard." "And when they enter?" Clone Twenty-Five asked, her liquid-mercury blades humming with lethal anticipation. "When they enter, the Crimson-Fang elders will detonate the blood-pool in desperation," Lylin replied, his voice carrying the calm finality of a grim reaper. "The alliance vanguard will be decimated, the vampires' leadership will crumble, and both sides will look to the sky for a savior that will not come." He turned toward Clone Twenty-Four (Portal Architect). "Prepare the Void Gate at the citadel’s subterranean vault," Lylin added. "While they butcher each other above, the Shadow-Rest Association will claim the Crimson-Fang Clan’s three-thousand-year hoard of blood-spirit crystals." SYSTEM NOTIFICATION: OPERATION INITIATED: CITADEL HARVEST. TARGET 1: CRIMSON-FANG ANCESTRAL VAULT. TARGET 2: EXHAUSTED SURVIVORS OF BOTH FACTIONS (MIND-ANCHOR TARGETS). EXPECTED ENERGY YIELD: +8,000 SYSTEM UNITS. Across the valley, the eastern gate groaned and swung open. The Nine-River Alliance let out a roaring battle cry and surged forward into the trap, entirely unaware that every drop of blood spilled this day was paying the sovereign's tax to an unseen shadow master.
